360 owners question

Just a quick question for some of my fellow 360 owners.

Should I stand my 360 up or lay it down on it's side? I don't know of either or effects the game play and what not, but I am curious as to know.

I know PS3 had this problem where if you stand it up right, it causes the disc to scratch am warp.

I stand mine up and don't seem to have any trouble with it, but thats just me.

To me, the 360 looks like its designed to stand up, where as the PS3 looks like its designed to lay down, but thats just my thoughts.

I used to stand mine up on its side. But for some reason, the discs kept getting these marks around the edges in the form of a circle. These marks wouldn't allow my system to read the games. I put it laying down and no marks ever were formed. I don't know if my disc tray just wasn't fitted right, or maybe there's a problem with the laser that reads the disc, but either way, when my 360 is laying down, I haven't had a problem. I stand it up, and I need to go buy about 3-4 copies of a game because the disc becomes unreadable after 15 times of spinning inside the unit.

I recommend you lay the unit on its side to avoid what happened to me. But, its not happening to you, more power to ya.

I read somewhere (when I was doing research right before I got my 360) that it was better left lying on its side. I have had it on its side for almost 2 years.

The 360 is designed to be used either way, but it works best upright. You get the most air circulation through the system that way (also, you'll notice Microsoft usually displays them that way, and has them that way in most demo kiosks).

Also: If you're getting those circular scratches, that means one of two things; one, your system is moving while it's in operation or two, it did once and was jarred so badly the laser lens is now misaligned. Note, that the vibration doesn't have to be as intense as the system getting dropped on the floor, a subwoofer on the same entertainment center could cause it to happen.

A few other helpful 360 housekeeping tips: Do not use intercoolers. They can damage the system and Microsoft considers it a hardware mod so it can void your warranty. Get one of those little desktop fans and point it at the back if it's running hot. Also -and this is good advice for all electronics- keep it up off the floor, and especially carpet. All manner of things can get inside your system if you leave it on the floor.

I think I'll keep mine standing up then cause I heard that the 360 getting no ventilation is one of the main reasons it RRoD's on people. Well, the current one since the older ones were horrible, just horrible about that.

This part reminds me of a mod I saw someone do to their 360. Wish I could find the picture, looks like the Borg assimilated the 360.

Thanks fellas.

I'll have to do some experiments, but it seems at the moment my games are better with the system laying down it's side.

The reason I ask is, I want to preserve my xbox for Ghostbusters and I'd ate for the ting to break when my game comes.

So far, I only had the RROD once

I think it's quite a shame for us to stress because of an hardware disfunction…

Believe me, if I RROD'd once more, I'll hammer my 360 and buy an arcade one.
