360 Power Supply Overheating...I think.

OK, as I posted in a previous post I just picked up GTAIV. Ironically at the same a problem with my 360 began to rear it's ugly head. I think the power converter box to my 360 maybe going bad. Ever 2 hours or so it will shut itself off and replace it's normal cheery yellow light with a red light.

What confounds me though is why it is over heating. My gaming habits have not changed…it's location and set up at my TV have no changed in almost 2 and a half yrs…so why now.

So does anyone have any suggestions or possible way of fixing this or possible confirming if the power supply is indeed going out or what.

Where do you have your power supply sitting at? If you have it on the carpet or in a enclosed area try moving it to a more open area to allow more air flow.

My Xbox 360 decided to throw me the red ring of death tonight.

TONIGHT… when all I wanted to do was watch Ghostbusters on the damn thing.

Steve Ballmer is going to get an angry email from me tomorrow morning. I'll be damned if I can't play Ghostbusters: The Video Game because of Microsoft's incompetence.

I had the same problem if you had your xbox for less than three years its under warranty and they will fix it for free. Just call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and its fairly simple to do. They pay the shipping and handling and do the repair for free.

Thanks mdp872105! That's what I plan to do. Honestly, I hate Microsoft. If I had enough money, I would buy everyone a Mac.

Sadly, I don't, so instead, I will be making the Ghostbusters Legion a reality instead.

Let's just hope I break even… seriously. (;_

No, it was not on a carpet. The power supply was in an open area but air flow through there was not that good unfortunately (or the room in general)

James, are you under warranty? Let me know, I want to make sure you get your Xbox repaired without cost to you.

I have 7 months with my xbox 360, and haven´t any problem… it´s the Halo 3 Version console.

But I´m considering on buying a intercooler.

You might want to do a little research I had a cooler on mine and I got the red ring of death. I've also heard that the newer xboxs are better built and that coolers can actually rob the power from the xbox.
