A Franchise going full circle, and come back

Not sure how to title this, or if there is a name for it, but let me explain by examples.

Example one: Batman. It began actually from Detective Comics #27, but soon was made into a comic itself in 1940. Lets fast forward to like 1993 and the Batman the Animated Series which in turn released its own comic book series.

Example two: Street Fighter the video game which its sequel Street Fighter 2 was made into a movie titled Street Fighter, which lead to a arcade game named Street Fighter: The Movie.

Example three: Tales of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Comic book series which they made a Cartoon based (sort of off of) which then had a comic based off the cartoon.

Is there a name for this?

For those examples? Jumping the shark.

Only the second would be a jumping the shark. The other two were not generally seen as a downgrade in the franchise.

Example #1 is Milking a Cash Cow.

Example #2 I agree is Jumping the Shark.

And, example #3 is Milking a Cash Cow again.

As far as I am aware (though I am sure someone will correct me) there is no term for what you are referring to

I would simply call it returning to an old medium… and yes, milking the cash cow.

Coming full circle usually refers to something closing off, or ending.

Going back to something previously done before, especially when that's only referring to the medium that the story is being released in, isn't really “coming full circle”.

Well Star Wars had a several year worldwide craze then it completely died out for a decade, then started coming back with books games, then the special editions then the prequels, and now a ongoing cartoon series.

Star Trek has several cycles of this since it's been around so long.

Every franchise that has been around as long as Trek and Wars as well as, yes, Ghostbusters has cycles of peeked interest. Usually these cycles tend to conform to a new series (in the case of Trek) and Movie (in the case of Wars and Ghostbusters)

These cycles are why when I hear someone complain that the new GB merchandise isn't good enough, the toys are good enough etc, I tell them to enjoy it while they can. While there will hopefully always be Ghostbusters fans, even if a 3rd movie is made, this may not last forever.

Smallville. It began as an adaptation of the Superman legacy (which as you all know is a comic book) and was later adapted into it's own Comic book. Full circle?

As Doctor Venkman pointed out, “Come Full Circle” usually refers to something coming to an end in a state which it began. The Smallville example would probably work better if Smallville went off of the air but was continued on indefinitely as a comic book
