IÂve been thinking about this for a while. A friend of mine (Who has a little inside knowledge of the comic.
) told me not to expect a new toy line anytime soon, but as IÂve said before,
Âit never hurts to plan aheadÂ. Who knows? Maybe weÂll actually see one sometime down the road.
ItÂs obvious that Kenner (RGB) canÂt and wonÂt be doing it. They were bought out by the evil, cheap, primitive-style Hasboro. HasboroÂs toy-making technology is very outdated. They seem to make most of their action figures at a bad scale, as well. I know that their recent Star Wars lines are big improvements, but I still wouldnÂt trust them. So forget them. As for Trendmasters (EGB), their toys were too small, and they broke easily. Sure, it was nice to have an ECTO-1 that finally had lights and a siren, but what good was it if none of the pieces stayed on the roof? :p And come to think of it, I havenÂt heard too much about Trendmasters in a few years. So forget them, too. And come to think of it, someone said that McFarlane wouldnÂt touch a cartoon or comic with a ten-foot pole. Anyway, I also heard that McFarlane isnÂt going to do be making movie figures anymore (With the possible exception of Spawn.). For them, itÂs just sports figures from now on.
Personally, IÂd like to see Palisades do a new toy line. I donÂt know too much about toys anymore, but from what IÂve seen by them, I liked. Theirs are great. They definitely put high quality and detail into their figures. IÂm
sure that they would not disappoint us.
Also, IÂd like for the average GB figures to be six inches tall (I think thatÂs the average height of action figures these days.). Also, just for ideas, IÂll throw in some of the first movieÂs various ÂghostsÂ. This is how it could be:
Ghostbusters Series I: All 4 GB's in khaki jumpsuit W/ nametag, and molded-on elbow pads. Each figure includes a Proton Pack W/ Neutrona Wand, Pistol Belt W/ Walkie-Talkie/various other attachments, Circuit Board Pouch W/ Leg Tube, a special accessory, and a base designed to resemble the GB logo W/ foot pegs to stand the figure on:
1.) Dr. Peter Venkman W/ Ghost-Sniffer and a wearable puddle of green slime.
2.) Dr. Raymond Stantz W/ Ecto-Goggles and a Ghost Trap (Both should be connectable to Pistol Belt.).
3.) Dr. Egon Spengler W/ P.K.E. Meter, Ecto-Scope, and calculator.
4.) Winston Zeddemore W/ Working Ecto Containment Unit W/ Ghost Trap.
Ghostbusters: The Ghosts Series I:1.) Slimer W/ Room Service cart W/ food.
2.) Gozer & a Terror Dog 2-pack.
3.) Possessed Louis Tully W/ wearable burnt Terror Dog shell.
4.) Possessed Dana Barrett W/ wearable burnt Terror Dog shell.
5.) Transformed Librarian Ghost W/ slimed symmetrical book stack.
6.) Mr. Stay-Puft (HeÂd probably have to be big, though.).
7.) Walter J. Peck W/ briefcase and envelope containing the Cease and Desist orders.
And I know weÂd all love to see the ECTO-1. IÂd like for it to be to scale with the six-inch figures (Meaning that it should be big enough to fit all four GBs in it at the same time.). IÂd like for it to look more accurate than KennerÂs/Trendmasters previous incarnations. Give it the back seat and opening backdoors that we never had; and behind that, give it that storage space with a stretcher for the Proton Packs. Make sure it has all of the correct decals; no more, no less (Does anyone remember KennerÂs ECTO-1A?
). And this time make sure that ALL of the correct equipment is on the roof; once again, TO SCALE! :p Even the blue coil and ladder on the side matter. YouÂve got to have lights and the siren. And donÂt forget to use the correct colors, either. You can call me a nitpicker, but
Âthe smallest details are ALWAYS important.
But remember, as JMS did, donÂt let the toy company have any input on the series. Instead, let the series have input on the toy line.
Did I forget anything? Other than the firehouse?
