A possible action figure/toy line based on the new comic?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while. A friend of mine (Who has a little inside knowledge of the comic. ) told me not to expect a new toy line anytime soon, but as I’ve said before, ”it never hurts to plan ahead”. Who knows? Maybe we’ll actually see one sometime down the road.

It’s obvious that Kenner (RGB) can’t and won’t be doing it. They were bought out by the evil, cheap, primitive-style Hasboro. Hasboro’s toy-making technology is very outdated. They seem to make most of their action figures at a bad scale, as well. I know that their recent Star Wars lines are big improvements, but I still wouldn’t trust them. So forget them. As for Trendmasters (EGB), their toys were too small, and they broke easily. Sure, it was nice to have an ECTO-1 that finally had lights and a siren, but what good was it if none of the pieces stayed on the roof? :p And come to think of it, I haven’t heard too much about Trendmasters in a few years. So forget them, too. And come to think of it, someone said that McFarlane wouldn’t touch a cartoon or comic with a ten-foot pole. Anyway, I also heard that McFarlane isn’t going to do be making movie figures anymore (With the possible exception of Spawn.). For them, it’s just sports figures from now on.

Personally, I’d like to see Palisades do a new toy line. I don’t know too much about toys anymore, but from what I’ve seen by them, I liked. Theirs are great. They definitely put high quality and detail into their figures. I’m sure that they would not disappoint us. Also, I’d like for the average GB figures to be six inches tall (I think that’s the average height of action figures these days.). Also, just for ideas, I’ll throw in some of the first movie’s various “ghosts”. This is how it could be:

Ghostbusters Series I: All 4 GB's in khaki jumpsuit W/ nametag, and molded-on elbow pads. Each figure includes a Proton Pack W/ Neutrona Wand, Pistol Belt W/ Walkie-Talkie/various other attachments, Circuit Board Pouch W/ Leg Tube, a special accessory, and a base designed to resemble the GB logo W/ foot pegs to stand the figure on:
1.) Dr. Peter Venkman W/ Ghost-Sniffer and a wearable puddle of green slime.
2.) Dr. Raymond Stantz W/ Ecto-Goggles and a Ghost Trap (Both should be connectable to Pistol Belt.).
3.) Dr. Egon Spengler W/ P.K.E. Meter, Ecto-Scope, and calculator.
4.) Winston Zeddemore W/ Working Ecto Containment Unit W/ Ghost Trap.

Ghostbusters: The Ghosts Series I:
1.) Slimer W/ Room Service cart W/ food.
2.) Gozer & a Terror Dog 2-pack.
3.) Possessed Louis Tully W/ wearable burnt Terror Dog shell.
4.) Possessed Dana Barrett W/ wearable burnt Terror Dog shell.
5.) Transformed Librarian Ghost W/ slimed symmetrical book stack.
6.) Mr. Stay-Puft (He’d probably have to be big, though.).
7.) Walter J. Peck W/ briefcase and envelope containing the Cease and Desist orders.

And I know we’d all love to see the ECTO-1. I’d like for it to be to scale with the six-inch figures (Meaning that it should be big enough to fit all four GBs in it at the same time.). I’d like for it to look more accurate than Kenner’s/Trendmasters’ previous incarnations. Give it the back seat and opening backdoors that we never had; and behind that, give it that storage space with a stretcher for the Proton Packs. Make sure it has all of the correct decals; no more, no less (Does anyone remember Kenner’s ECTO-1A? ). And this time make sure that ALL of the correct equipment is on the roof; once again, TO SCALE! :p Even the blue coil and ladder on the side matter. You’ve got to have lights and the siren. And don’t forget to use the correct colors, either. You can call me a nitpicker, but “the smallest details” are ALWAYS important.

But remember, as JMS did, don’t let the toy company have any input on the series. Instead, let the series have input on the toy line.

Did I forget anything? Other than the firehouse?

Who wouldn't want a new toy line?! I'd love to see Palisades make a new toy line… wouldn't mind seeing NECA crank out a toyline either.

Riddle, how come a quarter of the “ghosts” line are actually people? :p

Well, as I've mentined before, Palisades looked into it. At the time, it was not possible. From other rumblings I'm hearing, that may no longer be the case, but I kinda doubt they'd be able to get into it at the moment. Besides their Muppets, G.I. Joe, and Alien/Predator stuff, they've got several licenses that they're working on launching within the next year (Transformers, Army of Darkness, Pink Panther, Ren and Stimpy, and Crittaz), and they may just flat be too busy.

Poor Ken's overworked as it is. I agree they'd be awesome to do the figs, but I wouldn't count on it.

They'd make good figures I think. But doesn't NECA have the liscense for these types of things?

An action figure license is different from a “general merchandise” license. Head bobbers, statues, figures, plush, they're all different. Not to say that sometimes a company doesn't get them all…but not usually.

A lot of it has to do with what the company in question is capable of. For example, Hasbro owns the G.I. Joe license flat out…but statues and busts are not something that they really have experience doing. Enter Palisades, who has a really good track record with polystone, and suddenly I've got a really bad-ass Destro bust sitting here on my desk.

Make sense?

Yes, I thought about those earlier (Come to think of it, Ron also suggested it then! :-) ), but I haven't seen what their casual clothes will look like in the new comic. They'll probably be more modern-ish than 1983/84-ish, though. I'm sure Egon will still be wearing his nice business suits and/or lab coats. Once we see their casual clothes, I'll come up with something. Janine will probably come with a desk W/ a computer and telephone (Kind of like Toy Biz' Spider-Man Movie J. Jonah Jameson.).

Uh… Because two of those people are possessed? :p

Toygeek and Orko: If Palisades couldn't do it, then NECA would be the next best choice. But it would be cool to see Palisades do it.

Most definately! I'm not saying that it's completely outside the realm of possibility if the license has freed up. I mean, they are currently looking into Invader Zim (which if anyone really wants IZ figures, you might want to drop by their board and tell them so, as that's the only way it's gonna happen.), so it's not like they aren't OPEN to other new stuff. I just hate seeing Ken so overworked.

Hey, this is my first post here, but after learning about the new comic I got all excited and nostalgic (sp?) cause with all the 80's stuff being reinvented, ie GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc, etc, I always thought they should do something with Ghostbusters since it was from that era.

Anyways I thought it be great to see some new toys, but not from somebody like McFarlane or Palisades, because either company will only make the four main characters, they'll be set in a specific pose, we wouldnt see any Ecto or Firehouse type toys, etc, etc.

I want toys that I could actually play with, that still look good, and have stuff like vehicles and playsets.

Im somewhat of a decent artist, and Im gonna draw up some figure concepts, then I'll post them, and you guys can tell me what you think, and hey if you like them you could start a petition or something.

For now I'll just put up this small outfit/uniform sketch I did (no head, its just the outfit)

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that was a sketch of Vincent Belmont's uniform design, a few variations of which can be found under my gallery at DeviantArt

EDIT: It is a copy of Vincent's work, here is a coloured example

GBUK Uniform Design 3

For your sake, I hope you haven't been claiming to have come up with the design. I take it very badly when people try to rip-off my friends.

I just hope it simply inspired you
