The proton beam is the single most expensive effect we have in game.

I remember several of our best programmers spent a good while trying to get it to act right.

In the end, it's just difficult to get something to act like a painted effect.

i can imagine that!
tryed to get a proton stream in gta sa!
only i could do is repaint a muzzle flash!

I was under the impression that the proton beam and the grappling/capture beam were seperate.

For example, you would blast a ghost with the normal proton beam to wear it down - and once it was “Weak” you'd use the capture beam to grapple it and start wrangling it into the trap.

There were a few RGB episodes where they would mention something similar.

Using the “ropes” i believe.

Yes you can manually switch between the beams of wrangle or proton beam is, but it also switches automatically when you wear the ghost down enough

I remember seeing somewhere a flier for the demo @ SDCC 07 that displayed the (360) controls for the game that displayed one (right bumper if I remember correctly) button that switched the beams

Yep, he might be asking where you got the info that you can manually switch them, but I like how they made it so it toggles instantly once the ghost is worn down enough.

Well I think this way. Why say “the wrangle switches automatically” if you cant switch between the two.

If there was no ability to switch between the two beams, the there would be no point to the statement in the video.

Kind of a common sense thing.
