ALICE pack substitute

Hello,

I'm building a proton pack, and since the ALICE pack is pretty expensive, I think I'll use a cheaper substitue. I'm going to tear up an old school bag and somehow attach it to the pack. Do you have any ideas for a secure way I can attach the straps?

Wak-

MTGB used a serious of PVC pipe and elbow/ T joints to construct a frame, then used a drill to put holes for backpack straps (you should be able to go to any army/navy supply store and get some nice backpack straps ours where 10 bucks)

I can draw up plans for you if you really need them- but I bet you can figure it out smile

on my proto proton pack i used book back straps, ran leather belt threw them and then added a little axtra foam in there to, it works pretty well but, if you really want a cool pack that you wanna use for years and years to come, i really sugest the alice pack, just save up some money, thats what im doing

Could you please go into more detail on how you attached the bookbag straps? Thanks.

shure no prob man, ok first things first, two lether belts, ones that have holes in them. Then get your book bag straps, what you wanna do is run the belts through the book bag straps, if you want add foam as well along with the belts, then naim(or srew) the belt into your desired place on the proton pack. this should create a good hold since lether dosnt rip easily, if you have any other questions just post em wink

I bought Shoulder Straps from the Army Surlpus, they were 3.95 for each strap, so I had to purchase two. I allgined them and screwed them into the mainboard. Luckily, they screwed into the eda box and gun mount block. I had to cut part of the clip off of the shoulder straps. And then you can screw them right in. 1 time the screw did strip out, causing the pack to fall, taking out the n filter. Although it was an easy fix, and havnt had any problems with it since. Just screwed into a new hole, and havnt had any problems.

Here'a a tip, go to local Gun Shows. I found an ALICE frame for $10 yesterday. I saw another for $12 at another Gun Show. I've found lots of items for various props at gun shows (Including an actual Gray Pistol belt!).

I work for a gun retailer, the outfitters section has no grey pistol belts, and they also dont have a supplier who sells them.

I making a frame for my slime blower out of copper pipe, and then painting the same color as the main tank. Then attach the same shoulder straps that I bought at the army surplus for the proton pack.
