ALL READ - Spam Bot Procedure

Apologies for the caps lock title, they're not usually allowed, and certainly aren't easy on the eyes.

However.

Spam Bots:

Please could users refrain from replying to the posts of spam bots, it can make it more difficult for us to spot them. If you detect a spam bot please could you either PM a mod directly with the link to their post included, or could you post a link to their post in this thread.

These procedures will enable the mods to deal with the problems at a much faster rate, as we will recieve email notification from the PMs and from this topic.

We apologise for the growing number of spam bots on the board and with your help, we are confident we can crack down on them.

Thanks.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

The spam situation is getting steadily worse. I am creating two new threads.

Thread 1 will be for the reporting of spam POSTS only, and has the primary function of alerting mods to the location of these posts should we have missed them. Thankfully due the ungodly hours that myself and the other mods are on this forum, we seem to nuke most of them as soon as they appear, but we can sometimes miss them.

Thread 2 will be for the reporting of Spammer Profiles, even if the user has been mentioned in thread 1. This is for the attention of Tex. Only admins have the power to ban Spambots, and it would make the process much faster to have one definitive list of spammer profiles.

Keep up the good work guys! Your help is most appreciated.

Spammer? I think so!

I got an Idea how to keep the spammers off when you register you should ask GB related questions that TRUE GB fans would know!
example: Finish this movie qoute “ What you have there was what we refer to as a focused non-terminal repeating?” To get in they have to get like 6 out of 10 questions right. This is just an Idea. Make it multiple choice or something.

It would be much easier just to have one of those “type the letters in the above picture” dealy. Need to speak to Chad about it.

Apparantly Troy over at GBHQ tried it… but they have a way of getting around the system.

Unfortunately correct. At this point, it's set so that an Administrator has to activate a new account before it can post.

To have it work properly, at least one Admin should be around at least once a day to delete the spammers and make sure potential good users don't have to wait long to get activated.

Is this where Ben and I apply for promotion? :-p

It is an issue. Hopefully we'll find a way of dealing with it permanently.
