Alright, a few facts about the comic. Straight from Sebastian himself.

I do so love it when people fail to see sarcasm.

you know what this whole discussion reminds me of? Life of Brian, that's what…

Why are you always on about women, Stan?

I want to be one.

What?

I want to be a woman. From now on, I want you all to call me ‘Loretta’.

What?!

It's my right as a man.

Well, why do you want to be Loretta, Stan?

I want to have babies.

You want to have babies?!

It's every man's right to have babies if he wants them.

But… you can't have babies.

Don't you oppress me.

I'm not oppressing you, Stan. You haven't got a womb! Where's the foetus going to gestate?! You going to keep it in a box?!

See what I mean? It really is getting pretty ridiculous.

Frankly, it's rather silly to remove smoking, apart from the fact it makes things a little bit more realistic (though I don't condone smoking) Lots of comic charaters smoke, Wolverine, Nick Fury. Just let them smoke, it's not like they'll cause anymore damage that hasn't already been done now.

Personally, I don't care. I think this is an asinine argument.

I smoke myself. The REAL me, not Vincent. (Well, yeah, Vincent does, too…see the new Nightsquad works) When I smoke, though, I do it maybe twice a week at the most, and my smoking habit involves stuffing tobacco in a pipe and lighting up using a long-neck match.

Do I do it to look cool? No. Who am I out to impress? Gabe and I just enjoy smoking a bit, and blowing smoke rings.

Do I consider it a stupid habit? Only if you're doing it to “look cool” or “Pick up chicks,” or if you are truly an addict.

other than that, enjoy.

Vince you KNOW the GB's look cooler smoking. It adds realism man.

I mean really think about it guys, If you were Ghostbusters you can't say you WOULDN'T smoke or drink. It's a stressful job man, You need to relieve tensions.

…..And Vince just smokes a pipe cause he thinks it makes him look all smart and Sherlock Holmesish.

I can't believe that with the book coming out and everybody is stuck on the SMOKING TOPIC! LOL!

Check it out, there were 5 points made about the making of the book. Let's discuss those some:

“1. The comics will follow after the first movie in continuity.”
I think this is very VERY cool. I love continuity in stories. I think it will give them a chance to introduce ‘Slimer’ into the story line eventually, not all at once. They may even figure a way to tie in the first ep's of RGB somehow.

“2. The Equipment, Firehouse, Ecto-1 and everything else will be modeled after the first movie. That means no GB2 weapons, No Ecto-1A, No giga meter.”
I think a wonderful move on their part, and even though the ‘little things’ aren't there, I've not missed them in any conceptual art yet.

“3. The comic's timeline will take place in present time. That means 2003 folks.”
If they can pull it off, go for it. That would put the film having happened in 2002. I'm okay with that. I just hope we don't see any haunted “Ground Zero” Twin Tower stories, though I'm sure 88MPH has more couth than that.

“4. Slimer will not be a loveable little freak for the kids. Slimer will be modeled after the way he was in the original Ghostbusters movie. Whether he will be called Slimer or Onionhead is still being debated.”
I hope they don't call him Slimer, at least not in the beginning. If they start out calling him that, it will debunk the continuity and negate the RGB cartoon for those fans of that cartoon. I think the only reason for the inclusion of Slimer to begin with is that Japanese stories and anime usually include a mascot character, some odd looking little creature or pet. If he wasn't included, or just used sparingly, I'd be okay with that, too, seeing as he was seen escaping at the end of the film.

“5. The guys will also smoke cigarettes, use mild profanity, and be generally like the were in the original Ghostbusters. Egon will be straight edged and will only eat twinkies.”
I don't remember Egon being such a sugar-freak in anything I've ever seen or read, but it works for me. I have a cartoon character named Calvin that's a lactose-intolerant cow. Forgetting the smoking topic or beer drinking topic, I think this will be a much more fun comic to read because: a) The Boys Are Back in Town and, b) No blood n guts karate vigilante stuff!

Egon being a sugar junkie is something from the movie: Venkman rewards him with a Cruch bar after the library ghost encounter, and of course Egon uses a Twinkie in his famous dissertation to Winston on New York's PK levels. It really wasn't in RGB, but a lot of the fanfic writers over the years have run with it.

Ican cope with the GBs smoking, except Egon, so thank god! But seriously now, it doesn't make them look cool. I don't mind them either way! Smoking does not= cool!

bo, you made a remark in another topic about how members are dwelling on such small, stupid things. well, THIS IS ONE OF THEM!

*Still trying to get off the smoking topic…*

I can see why the joke of the sugar-rush on Egon can be carried on then. If fan-fics have carried it on, then it should be in the new comics, too. It also is funny because he's so straight laced you'd think he was an organic, salad-food type guy; him getting sugary foods and staying skinny is funny.

Have there been any new developments issued about the book, stories, or anything else since this thread has begun?

I bet Egon likes pie.
