This is easily the stupidest thread imaginable about the new game. Upset about it? Absolutely not. If you're not a gamer, deal with it. Either become a gamer for this game and play it, or miss out. After years of not getting anything new that was even close to this big, its unbelievable that people could find anything wrong with this. You don't need to buy a new game system, just buy the game for your computer and there you go.

What's so stupid about the thread?? It's a perfectly valid issue to bring up. And for the record I'm not complaining or bitching, nor do I find anything wrong with this new game. As I said in my first post, I think this game looks sweet. Amazing. Biggest thing since XGB. I'm totally excited and thrilled that this is happening, and that Bill Murray finally came to his senses.

BUT AGAIN, I don't have any newer generation video game systems, or a Windows PC, and I'm not gonna buy a NEW system just for this one game. That's highly illogical. The only way I could reasonably play this game (which I would love to do), is if they make it available for Macintosh which (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm pretty sure they won't.

Kingpin
C'mon Ghoulishfright, we both know that'll never happen. They'd be setting themselves up for a massive loss. Who would bother buying the game when they can just buy a DVD that's half the price and watch the story without the effort?

That may be a fair point. Although if it were the case, and the gamer fans just bought the DVD instead of the game itself because it was “more of the same” or “more effort”, then that probably means the gameplay wasn't that good/fun to begin with. I still think a DVD is a great idea. I mean the hardcore gaming-ghostheads aren't going to be deterred by an extra $30, or whatever it is. If the game is truly worth its salt, which I'm sure it will be; they'll buy IT, rather than some DVD. The non-gaming hardcore ghostheads however (possibly the majority of ghostheads) are largely not gonna pay 350 bucks for a system. Similarly, most people are not gonna drive 1000 miles to see their favorite band in concert!

Maybe, just maybe I'll get lucky, and they'll make the game available for my Mac, and I won't have to worry about this then. But right now I'm somewhat worried. …Making Ghostbusters into a hi-tech game is awesome. But making (essentially) GB3 (something completely new and epic in the franchise) into a video game only; that would be ignoring a HUGE demographic. GB is first and foremost a film-franchise you know. I just don't wanna miss out on something I've been waiting nearly 20 years for, because of ‘technological’ reasons…..

Again, find a friend who does have one.

I also don't think there is a “huge” group of fans. The video game makes fianical sense. Selling a dvd of the gameplay? no.

But the thing is that it's not like they chose to ignore the film-going demographic… They're doing this because they exhaused all of their options in the attempt to make a movie. They tried, Sony wouldn't play ball and Ghostbusters 3, as a movie is dead.

Sure, it won't get out to as wide an audience as a game, but Dan and Harold seem happy with the work they're doing and at the end of the day, it's still something new in the world of Ghostbusters.

Yes, I'm sure Akroyd and Ramis would've loved to have done a third movie, but its pretty much like Kingpin said, Sony and even Bill Murray were not playing ball there, the only way something even close to a third movie would be the video game.

What about if GB3 went direct to DVD and you didn't have a DVD player? A game is a game. They come out on consoles and computers. If you can't do that then I'm afraid it's tough.

The only good friends I have with a newer gaming systems have PS2s, and we live in seperate cities now. Not gonna happen. Believe it or not, a lot of poor college students and faithful ghostheads don't own gaming systems.

And what do you mean not a huge group of fans??? Ghostbusters is easily one of the biggest selling and most recognizable franchises in the world! I'm sure there are MILLIONS of fans, especially older fans, that would also love to see this new Ghostbusters, but are going to inevitably miss out if it's only released for a single minority medium.

Oh, I understand all of that. In a couple ways I'm glad they chose to do it in a computer-animated visual format. Now the guys can look young again, as opposed to making a fat-old-guys-in-proton-packs movie or whatever. AND there's gonna be so much more ghostbusting action, than a live-action adventure would allow for. So many more ghosts and effects. It's gonna be awesome. But now that they've finally found a way to get it out, there's no reason they can't expand on it, and ALSO release it in a manner thats closer to how GB3 was intended to be released.

I mean a video game is great. This should BE, and will BE a video game first and foremost. And if I can somehow experience it as such, then I will in a heartbeat. But SINCE a vast number of fans (old & potential newcomers) would inevitably be cheated if this only becomes a game, I say; do something for their sake. It's a win-win situation. More money for Sony, more satisfied ghostheads, and more fresh fans.

EDIT:

It's a similar scenario, but come on - DVD players are FAR more common than X-Boxes, PS3s, etc., AND they don't cost a fucking arm and a leg. Whereas a good DVD player can be had for under 30 dollars. A huge majority of people actually watch/buy DVDs too, but only a good minority of people play/buy games, and again; GB is a filmic-franchise at it's core.

But it's a GAME. The entire point is to be played. Fcol. Next people will ask for the next sonic game to have a dvd release…

Yeah. It's a game. Awesome. But it's also the new GHOSTBUSTERS® movie, in disguise as a game. Y'know, the one we've all been waiting almost 20 years for. It's got a script, the original actors, a storyline, cinematography - all that “movie” stuff. What's wrong with the idea of simply cutting the ‘scenes’ together, and slapping them on some DVD's??? ….It's really easy to sit there and say "but it's a game, and it should only exist as a game" when you (apparently) already own a system and regularly play. However, some of the many faithful, loyal ghostheads (like many of those over 25 for example) might not have that luxury. Ought they miss out on such a huge event??? ….And this is NOT Sonic the Hedgehog. If this was merely a first-person-shooter type game or something, with Ghostbusters, I would agree; it should be a game only. BUT this is gonna be so much MORE! This is (for all practical purposes) G-B-f*cking-3!!! This shouldn't be hogged by a single medium, it should be the biggest f*cking ectoplasmic-extravaganza that capitalism will allow!

To be fair. No. I've only recently gotten myself a 360, before that I had (past tense) had a gamecube. Haven't been a gamer in some time.

Let's be frank. It's not GB3. Oh sure, people are SAYING it is, but it's not. It is a game. Plain and simple. Of course it has indepth plot, the best games do now, Resident Evil has an amazing plot (the games that is). But just because it's the biggest thing for GB2 since arguably RGB (not EGB), doesn't mean it should change what it is. Anything designed as one thing then converted to another will never be as good. Books generally don't make good films. Films don't often make good books. I believe the same is true of games. How many of people despise the majority of film inspired games? A lot. So its natural that the game should have it's own unique and high quality story. But I think it would be an insult to gaming as it's own medium if it were to be automatically converted to a film.
