I know I haven't posted in a couple of days (those damned college finals), but here I am!

QZEDDEMOORE, thanks for the support. But y'know after thinking about this thing some more, I can basically see your guys' points about the DVD. Personally I would still watch it if I can't end up actually playing it. I mean, there's no way in Hell I'm missing out on something this huge!; a bootleg “movie” version is far better than nothing. However, an "official" DVD would be really weird to most people, and therefore commercially non-viable. With proper editing of cut-scenes & gameplay, I'm sure you could make total sense out of the story, but the format would surely make it “weird” to say the least. So yeah, you guys are right there.

Gildir
If the game is adapted into a comic book or, better yet, a novelization, that will be wonderful…

Indeed Gildir. And that's basically the point I wanted to make… No matter what you think, surely you must agree with choice NUMERO UNO: It's a travesty that the new Ghostbusters is game exclusive. I mean, come on, wouldn't you prefer a sweet game AND a new movie, comic, novel, toys, etc.??? Yes. You would.

I know that they tried the film thing and it didn't work out. But now that the game is being made, I ONLY hope that they try to adapt the story into some other (inexpensive) format - i.e. a comic book mini-series (like RGB meets GB2… but without the RGB.), or a novel.

Honestly though, I probably will end up playing or ‘seeing’ the game eventually. I'm almost sure of it. It just might not be for a couple years is all, and I am one impatient Ghosthead! Just a lifelong fanboy expressing concern. But truly, the concern is minimal, and far outweighed by the tremendous JOY that finally after 18 years we're actually gonna see (or at least hear) the original foursome, together again! We are really quite lucky…

While I've enjoyed my share of games over the years, I sympathize with Ghoulishfright. In fact, under normal circumstances I'd agree as I do think that gaming is still something of a minority interest. Yes I know lots of people play games, but film and music still have a higher profile in the general public regardless of sales.

There's still the lingering notion that game consoles are ‘toys’ played by overgrown kids (men mainly), and games do still cater to a fairly narrow market. I mean its not like you see women rushing out to buy the latest romantic-comedy game (if one even exists). Other than The Sims, most of the big titles seem to be gun driven action games.

The problem is that its been so long since a Ghostbusters film has been made that I feel the cast is too old to be strapping on proton packs and running around the city. A cg film would get around that problem, but I'd find it strangely unsatisfying, so in this case I think a videogame is the perfect way to go.

And honestly, I'd really have to disagree about games being a minority, really, and yes, CG would be the only way to go, especially since like you said, the guys are to old, and not only that, theres the major hurdle that is Bill Murray.

Personally, I'm still glad that its going as a game, not only will it feature the cast, but you'll actually get to be a Ghostbuster in it, I think thats something that alot of people want.

Well maybe not a minority exactly, but I do think games have a more limited appeal compared to other media. Its not that I dont enjoy games (I do!), but there's still a nerdish vibe surrounding them.
A Playstation isn't really the sort of thing thats designed to appeal to your grandma. Looking at the number of games that are heavy on violence/shooting etc. its still very much a male-centric form of entertainment that feels like its driven towards teenagers. I eventually got fed up of buying games magazines because every month it was another sci-fi shooter, or fantasy RPG, or GTA clone. It got to the point where I felt like I'd moved on and games hadn't. They were still stuck on space invaders, but with better graphics.
Of course things are broadening out with the Wii and DS (I think Nintendo's marketing here in the UK has been fantastic for appealing to non-gamers) but there's still a long way to go before they have the kind of acceptance that cinema does. Put it this way, if developers are going to be insistant on producing games with interactive stories then they really need to get some stories worth telling.

Now in this case, I do think a GB game is the best step forward. Because Ghostbusters is an old franchise that a lot of us grew up with, I'd imagine the people working on the game will put a lot of care and attention into it. The technology is mature for it to work, and the fact that Aykroyd and Ramis are writing it gives me a lot of hope, so overall I think this will be more than ‘just a game’ (The chance of being a fifth Ghostbuster alongside the original team fulfils my childhood fantasy).

Well, you can blame the fans for that, cause honestly, if its not a game like GTA or Halo or the like, then its called kiddie, which IMO is ridiculous, but luckily, I think that Ghostbusters is like you said, a big step forward, especially since they're trying for a T rating on it.

I just read the Game Informer article about the new Ghostbusters game, and it looks SWEET. The problem is, I'm not a “gamer”. Most video games by and large (especially today) bore me to death, no offense. Haven't really played in like four years. ANYWAY, the point is I really want to see this thing. It seems like the biggest thing in Ghostbusters since XGB, and like Dan said, it basically IS the third movie. I would feel really cheated if I missed out on it, just because I don't wanna shell out hundreds of dollars for a system & one bloody game.

So basically thats my little rant (mind you I'm not angry though). I'm just wondering if the Powers that Be are going to make this story, or “movie” available in some other way that doesn't involve ‘gameplay’. Preferably I would like to see them release the movie scenes (I'm assuming thats how the story will be structured and executed: with movie scenes interuppted by plotless gameplay, like other games) on DVD; edited together as one complete piece. At the very least they should make Aykroyd's & Ramis' script (which I hope is feature length-ish) available online or something.

Like all of us ghostheads, I've been waiting almost 20 years for “GB3” or something like it to happen. This just isn't what I expected or wanted, and I really really hope I still get to enjoy it somehow….

I'm not much of a gamer myself. I only get through around two or three games a year and I'm pretty fussy and specific about what I like.

But you gotta play this! It's not only Ghostbusters but it's effectively GHOSTBUSTERS III and so far it looks amazing. I honestly haven't got a bad thing so say about what I've seen or read so far.

If you prefer to watch instead of play, the game will feature various interviews with the cast and makers of the game which will probably be incorporated as unlockable features which can be vied by acheiving certain things in the game.

Ghoulish, just a question:

Why not simply HIRE an 360 system and the game when it comes out? Hire it for a few days or a week. Enjoy it, live it, finish it. Return when done?

Failing that BUY a second-hand system on eBay with the game, play it, enjoy it, finish it, and then sell it? Sure you'll lose some money, but you will want to surely pay for something so excellent as this?

Good idea? No? Yes?

You probably missed the part where he said he sucks at video games.
