Anyone knowledgeable with Dogs?

Can someone help me? Me and my girlfriend just got our 8 year old Cocker Spaniel and he has never misbehaved before. He growls and bit me for just petting him and he bit my girlfirend in the face and had to get stiches. I don't know what to do anymore. i have tried to take basic dog advice and nothing helps. Anyone have any suggestions?

Is it fixed? I mean this ligitimately… a lot of times they build up aggression if they still got their bits.

Crimson has a point. Also how long have you two actually had the dog? The dog is 8, but your wording makes it seem that the dog is relatively new to you.

Definitely the “fixed” thing could be an issue.

If the dog is new to you, that could also be an issue, as it could be difficult to teach the dog.

A cocker spaniel… I dunno… but I know that Springer Spaniels, if not bred correctly, can have rage issues. Not sure if that can happen with other spaniels as well.

But if he's attacking people for no reason, and causing such serious injuries, it might be time to get rid of him. I know that's difficult to hear, but it could be an issue that isn't able to be fixed.

He just got fixed about a month ago and he is new to me yes. I dunno if its fear from being abused from his former owners???

Talk to your vet or someone professional about it.

A bunch of guys on a messageboard are just going to give you guesses without actually knowing enough about the situation.

If you want the dog to be happy and healthy, and move forward that way, you need to make sure nothing is seriously wrong.

Talk to a vet.
