Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the GB community discovered “Hell Bent” there was a rumour abour a script concept for Ghostbusters 3…
It went something like this.
A group of scientists in old New York (possibly circa 1930s, it was DEFINITELY pre 60's) are studying the “miracle of dying” (don't ask me, that's the wording that was used), when suddenly they unleash something terrible…. dun dun dun
As far as I recall, there was speculation that Ghostbusters 3, would actually be a prequel, and wouldnt use any of the original cast or equipment.
Anyone remember the oldest of GB3 rumours?

I have no recollection of that. If that rumor was true, I suppressed it like a bad memory. :p
Seriously pre Hellbent, I don't remember any of the rumors. I'd have to check GBHQ, (if that page is still up) Proton Charging, and Spook Central.

Never heard of this script. I doubt a Ghostbusters prequel would work very well though as the business started in 84, hence there would be no ghostbusting in the movie.
But the concept of a previous unknown and forgotten team of ghostcatchers set along the backdrop of a 1930s prohibition, gangster ridden Manhatten sounds an interesting one though. I can imagine them using some bizzare low tech methods of spook catching with ridiculously heavy and untrustworthy contraptions and travelling everywhere by horse and cart.

For the same reason that Season of the Witch was called Halloween 3 when it had no bearing AT ALL on the original two movies which both involved Michael Myers except that it was set at Halloween.
