Are the Real Ghostbusters books from the UK any good?

I was thinking about picking these up from amazon.uk -

Who Ya Gonna Call?
A Hard Day's Fright.
This Ghost is Toast!
Which Witch is Which?

How ‘kid-cheesy’ are they? I grew up with the show, so I don't mind if they are like that, and I'm not expecting anything like Legion or the Tokyopop Manga, but what do you think they are worth reading? I'm interested to hear from people that have actually read them.

*Those books are reprints of the old Marvel UK comics…The stories can be alittle absurd, and the art wonky at times, however they are entertaining:-)(*peter)…Though none of it should be treated as “canon” though…Case in point:

*Gozer being defeated that easily? Especially after the trouble the guys went through in the first movie? Please (*egon)…But it was a funny strip though, and the art was good(*peter)…

*Cheers.

LOL. That strip was pretty light hearted. I liked it.
Thanks for sharing it.
I've never taken any of the comics (whatever they be) as canon. I sort of see them as ‘alternate realities’ or ‘different timelines’.

They're pretty knockabout, but they're fun enough. The ‘Spengler’s Spirit Guide' sections, however, are on occasion hilarious. It's well worth the low prices just to read those bits!

Why oh why doesn't Titan or even IDW reprint some of the old Now Comics RGBs by James Van Hise, John Tobias, Niel Grahame, ect? Now those would be worth recommending to any Ghostbusters fan without hesitation.

Yeah, reading through the NOW Comics Real Ghostbusters, they do have good stories and even tie in some ghosts from the series such as Peoplebusters, Samhain(2 times and a character related to him), Boogieman.

I have been wondering the same thing my self. If the old GI Joe and Transformers Marvel comics can be reprinted in TPB form then why not the RGB issues from NOW comics?

I have had a blast reading the Marvel UK books, even if the writing is aimed kids and really silly at times. I was really surprised to learn that some stories from the UK were later reprinted in the RGB and Slimer comics. Also both series often reused cover artwork from the Marvel UK books, even if the cover art did not fit the story inside the book.

Does Titan still have the licence to print the UK RGB stories? I was surprised when they stopped after only four books

Someone would need to get the rights to the NOW books, which is a task considering NOW is always in and out of business. I believe the latest effort, NOW 3.0, failed. The reason HASBRO was able to reprint some of the Marvel books to sell with figures and what-not is because they bought the reprint rights from Marvel. So while Sony owns the license, NOW owns the material.

Also, the UK series reused some of the NOW covers as well, and both series exchanged stories. I imagine it was mostly cost-saving measures or maybe just trying to inject a little foreign flavor into each market.
