Actually, castewar makes a good point. I just think that maybe we should have an “active users” list, for people who have been on the board in the last 30 days, rather than delete the accounts.
Honestly, try and look at it from a marketing perspective. I'll use the infamous Red Ketchup as an example, even though he's probably well educated on the current board status, ongoings, etc.
Red is looking for an established, yet dormant, franchise to start his comic company with. He finds a dedicated network (GBN) with 7,031 registered users. These are only the dedicated, registered users, not including casual fans who look at the board but haven't registered. Now Red sees that Ghostbusters is a viable licensce, and plans one product, with, oh let's say seven follow-ups if the first is successful. However, Red's expectations are instantly skewed by the boards claim of 7,031 users, who, in reality, are probably at least 5% dual accounts (more like 10%) as well as people who signed up once to post a quick message (possibly in the miscellaneous forum and had nothing to do with Ghostbusters), and as such, product one is deemed a failure and products two through eight are never released. Red is left with a stockpile of inventory, and severs his contract with Sony.
