Aykroyd says Ghostbusters 3 will start shooting in the spring

Winnipeg Free Press just caught a word with Dan Aykroyd this past Saturday in Winnipeg, Manitoba as he was promoting his selection of wines, Crystal Head vodka and Patron tequila. While the article is definately worth a read, one portion caught our eye in particular:

Aykroyd said much of his time will soon be taken up by Ghostbusters III, which begins shooting next spring.

Exactly what he said, or misquoted?

Look, we love rumors regarding Ghostbusters 3. Everyone seems to have an opionon on it, but until we official hear it confirmed by the studio we’re still taking everything we hear with a grain of salt.

Talking to the press as he rolls through Manitoba on his signing tour to promote his growing collection of spirits (the hiccup kind, not the boo kind), Dan made the suggestion that this leg of the on-going, multi-year tour that this will be it for awhile, as Ghostbusters 3 filming in the spring will demand all his time. It’s important to keep in mind that Dan is the film’s most active proponent, always assuming the best outcome to all situations, so I wouldn’t consider this hard confirmation that GB3 is going ahead just yet – rather, Dan is currently feeling good that the previously discussed plan to film next year is going to get the green light. It’s Patented Aykroyd Positive Thinking at it’s best, and our fingers are crossed.

No, Dan has said many things that later became untrue. Dan is the main creator of Ghostbusters, and it is his baby. He has said things like this since 98, and I wont believe til we see footage or people making footage for it. Words at this point, don't mean a thing. Get on the set and start shooting, then tell us about it! lol

What we need is Sony to make an official announcement that the project has a green light to go.

Although things do seem to be pointing to a go on the project, a few people have now posted on various forums that they have met Dan recently on his Vodka signings and he has said to them that the project is proceding well and that filming will start next year, here's hoping for a GB3 announcement soon.

Aykroyd is always the project's biggest cheerleader, and often gets a little too excited about things and tends to jump the gun.

Until there's an official announcement, don't count on this as definitive.

While I won't say this is official, I'd say this is at least more significant than most of what Dan says. I don't think he'd announce a break in his signings unless he was sure. He really loves doing those signings and meeting fans. I mean, he's been doing these signings for quite a long time, so an announcement that he is done for a while should at least be seen as a bit odd.

Agreed. I love Dan, but he is a cheerleader and till Sony green lights it, wait to cheer.

Nobody's bagging on Dan, they're simply pointing out that although Dan hasn't lied, a lot of the things he's said in hopeful enthusiasm over the years haven't always come to fruition.

Yes no bashing of Dan from me, but he is so excited he gets his and all the Ghostbusters fans hope up and then we all fall on our faces when it doesn't work out. He is just so excited that is does/speak before thinking I assume. Probably a lot of “oh shit I shouldn't have said that” moments in his life.
