The Arizona Ghostbusters has teamed with SpazDog Comics to host a Holiday Toy Drive Saturday December 5 for the Children's Cancer Network. The drive will be from 12pm till 4 pm. The 28ft Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and the Ecto-AZ will be there as well.

Comic artist Daniel Bradford of Robot 13 fame will be on hand as well. Daniel Bradford has created a special print for the event of Robot 13 fighting Stay Puft. The print will be signed and numbered limited to 25 for $10 each to benefit the drive. We are accepting all kinds of new toy donations, but if you don't have a new toy to donate, SpazDog Comics entire stock of action figures is on sale with a large selection of $10 figures available. If you purchase a figure from the store and donate it, they will match your donation with a Superman or Batman figure. State Farm Insurace is going to be providing hot dogs and hamburgers for everybody.

This will be our team's second event with the Children's Cancer Network and our first time helping with their Holiday Toy Drive. The Children's Cancer Network adopts families with children undergoing cancer treatment at the valley hospitals to provide a happy holiday for them. The Network hosts fundraisers throughout the year and offers resources and support for families. Thanks to our “Ghostbusters” screening we have already raised $300 to purchase items for the drive.

We'll provide event updates as we get them.

Yesterday Matt H and Todd gave Mr. Puft a much needed bath:

…with a steamroller*? :p

Actually, it does remind me of one of the old Casper cartoons where he was looking for a friend. He encountered a skunk, who sprayed him, and the next shot shows Casper bathing in an old washing tub…he puts himself through a mangle to wring the water out!

*I just realized it's almost Christmastime. That means you had to have used…a *Mannheim* steamroller.

That, dear sir, is at least one of the rentable (or buyable) inflatable Stay-Pufts hired out by Sony to publicize, among other things, the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. I think Kingpin posted a picture of a UK Stay-Puft earlier this year.

We are loaning it directly from Sony. We had it at the screening we did a few weeks ago: http://forums.ghostbusters.net/showthread.php?t=12256&page=2

The toy drive was a huge success. I'll have pics up soon.

On Friday December 4th, 2009, the Arizona Ghostbuters set up a fundraising booth at the 1st Friday Artwalk in downtown Phoenix. We collected cash donations for pictures with the team to purchase toys for the drive. Believe it or not, it does get cold in Phoenix.

On Saturday December 5th was the toy drive itself at Spazdog Comics. The event featured the return of Sony's 28ft Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. By now we've gotten pretty good at handling him. The Ecto-AZ was on hand as well our booth to collect toys and any additional cash donations. Any toys recieved was placed in the back of the Ecto. On hand was local comic artist Daniel Bradford selling his limited Stay-Puft vs. Robot 13 prints for donations to the drive. The store put all of their toys on sale and for each figure purchased there, the store would donate another one to the drive. We had 8 busters on hand, 4 in khaki and 4 in GB2 grey. We rotated members between roadside duty and staying with Puft and the Ecto for pictures. This event was also the first time Phil Truong (Taikoubou here on the boards) was with us as an official member and did a great job.

By the end of the day we collected 300 toys and $150 in cash donations from the Puft prints and our booth. With the recent screening raffle donations we had $450 total to give the Children's Cancer Network. Each holiday season the network adopts families of children undergoing cancer treatment. The toys will be distributed between the families at their homes and at the local hospitals. The cash will help purchase addtional items the families need. The organization was overwhelmed by what we were able to collect for them and we are continuing to plan future events with them. We're proud we've been able to brighten the holidays for these families.

I'll update with more photos as I get them.
