Back to the Future Trilogy 25th anniversary Blu-ray Disc boxed set arriving October 26, 2010!

Another true classic from the Ghostbusters era, sounds like a truely well packed Blu-Ray set with awesome picture and sound quality. It will be interesting to see how this set stacks up against the quality of the Ghostbusters Blu-Ray release, we all know they could of done better.

This is it! This is the big one you’ve been waiting for!!! Exactly twenty five years to the day since Marty McFly first sped off in Doc Brown’s suped-up DeLorean Time Machine in the parking lot of the Twin Pines Mall towards 1955, Universal Studios Home Entertainment (USHE) will release the 25th Anniversary Back to the Future Trilogy Boxed Set on DVD — and for the very first time on Blu-ray Disc — Tuesday, October 26, 2010!

This highly anticipated 25th Anniversary collection features all-new restorations for enhanced picture quality and hours of bonus features including new interviews with the cast and crew.

In an exclusive interview with BTTF.com, Back to the Future Writer/Producer Bob Gale gave us a sneak peek into what we can expect from these brand new features, including one specific item which fans have waited 25 years for a glimpse at.

We caught up with Bob last weekend at the 2010 DeLorean Car Show in Lexington, Kentucky to get his thoughts on the new Hi-Def transfers of the films. “The HD transfers for all three films are simply breath-taking,” Gale told BTTF.com. “They actually look better than they did in the theater because of the incredible job that was done on dirt clean-up. (And the film grain is preserved, so they still look like movies should look.) And hearing the sound in full dynamic range is — okay, I’ll say it — a blast!”

He went on to describe the new documentaries, one of which is called Tales from the Future. “I’m sure fans will enjoy the new documentaries, which include interviews with cast and crew members who — for budgetary reasons — were left out of the 2002 documentaries,” he explained. “So there are some stories and anecdotes told on camera for the first time. And since everyone wants to know, there are three very brief snippets of Eric Stoltz incorporated into one of the documentaries.” You heard it here first — finally, film footage of Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly!!

Finally, Bob gave us a description of just some of the remaining bonus features which to expect. “We’ve included an animatic storyboard of the nuclear test site sequence from the early drafts of Part 1; the galleries of stills and artwork have been rescanned at a higher resolution, and we’ve included just about everything from the previous releases as well.”

USHE has confirmed to BTTF.com that the following bonus features are included on both Blu-ray and DVD:

Tales from the Future: a 6-part retrospective documentary featuring all-new interviews with Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Director Robert Zemeckis, Producers Bob Gale and Neil Canton plus Executive Producer Steven Spielberg.

Sounds nice - but doesn't that really kind of suck for the people that bought the new release on DVD about a year ago (if that long even)?

I bought my original DVD Back to the Future trilogy back in 2002, I thought that all releases since then were just re-releases with the same content and features.

I bought that original trilogy pack as well. To be honest, I don't know if the ones that came out not too long ago had different/additional extra material or not, but I do know that the BTTF: The Ride video was included along with BTTF1 - and we don't have that on our set.

I also believe that the aspect ratio on the original first set of DVD's that were released in 2002 are wrong as replacement sets were given out to all that complained.

Yep, looks like the Telltale game is releasing around that time to tie in with the Blu-Ray release, not bad at all if you ask me.

On October 23 and 25, American Moviegoers Can Travel BACK TO THE FUTURE!!

On September 9, we posted a piece indicating that BACK TO THE FUTURE would be hitting the big screen again to commemorate its 25th anniversary - at that point it seemed said re-appearance would be limited only to UK theaters (details HERE).

Looks like plans have changed a bit. The film is still hitting UK screens (this Friday, I believe?), but now comes word that it will also be remembered here in the States.

On Saturday October 23 at 12:30pm, and Monday October 25 at 7pm, AMC theaters will host two special screenings of the first picture in the trilogy - on 158 screens across 40 cities. Your ticket purchase will include “a full-sized poster commemorating the 25th anniversary limited release of the movie”, and each AMC theater hosting the event will be “special movie-related giveaways prior to the movie as a part of the experience.”

It should be noted that the timing of these U.S. screenings coincides (ahem) with October 26's release of the BTTF trilogy on Blu-Ray (the set's now up for pre-order HERE). Not too long ago, in an interview I don't believe has actually been published yet, trilogy co-writer/producer Bob Gale told HeyGuys that the remasterings appearing on these Blu-Rays look “breathtaking” and that the films look much better than they did when they were initially released, or something like that. Can't wait to get a peek…

Find more about the impending U.S. screenings HERE. Tickets are now available HERE.
