bad 'Year One' reviews = bad sign for GB3 script?

Harold Ramis' new film ‘Year One’ (co-written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg) has mostly negative reviews. I hope their GB3 script will be better.

What’s the status on the third film?

Harold Ramis: Oh, I should have this recorded as an answer: Gene and Lee are writing a script based on a story I wrote with them; Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman are consulting. If the script is great, then everyone says they’ll do it. And that’s it — no casting, no director attached. Right now, there’s just a script being written. But it’s all good. After all, no one wants to embarrass themselves with a bad movie. (June 18, 2009)

Honestly, I don't want a GB3 if it isn't going to go back to the first movie's roots.

Judging by the story and the writing in the game, I'm really wishing the Aykroyd and Ramis were writing it. I get that they're consulting, so hopefully they're involved enough that they can make a difference, but the video game just completely had the old feel back.

I wouldnt say this is a bad sign, i mean they have source material to work from, aswell as being consulted with Ramis and Co. so i wouldnt say it can be completely disastrous. i still have hope.

Im a little worried, if this script was bad, and the soul of GB3 being made relies on the script being good, then yeah, i guess im a little worried, but i still have hope.

yeah tbh i dont think this means anything much related to Ghostbusters, it's a totally different concept to Year One, but all i'm sayingi f Jack Black become a GB kiss the franchise goodbye because that guy is damn awful in every movie, as soon as i saw the trailers for year one i knew i had to avoid the movie.

Wait…… Harold Ramis wrote Year One?

Seriously?

Hmm. That's some interesting trivia I can tell my family (I do that from time to time), bad movie or not.

I think of it as a worse sign for a GB3 greenlight than the script itself. They also write for The Office and that's pretty consistent in its humor.

i saw it last night, it was actually kinda funny.

wasnt a ‘good’ movie. but it had some good one-liners.

The dialoge was great, overall movie…not so much.

though, it did retread to alot of toilet humor at times.

its really hard to tell whether this is a bad sign or not. Since, GB is a cash cow, i doubt the studio will choose not to greenlight it just because a movie that happens to have the same writers didnt do well. I'm willing to give them another chance to see what they came up with for GB3.

Im not getting the Black hate on here.

Though Jack Black does overact at times, but he knows how to carry a well-rounded character when the development of the character is given proper treatment, for instance, watch King Kong or High Fidelity.

And just because a movie has bad reviews doesn't mean it's going to tank at the box office. I'm sure we can all each come up with one stupid movie that the reviewers hated that nevertheless ended up making assloads of money.

Basically, even if the critics hate “Year One” but it makes a bundle at the box office, Sony will be more likely to greenlight the GB3 script.
