I find it funny when the people in congress keep point out how low the presidents approval rating are when in reality there is half of his.

Congressional Approving ratings are rigged. For a true measure of how favorable or unfavorable a member of Congress is, you should truly look at their district/state and figure out what their rating is there.

A Senator/Representatives duty is not to the American people, but the people of their state/district. Therefore an accurate assesment of their performance can only be made by those people. Think of it like this, people in California do not rate the Gov. of Nebraska and vice versa because they have n vested interest in that position and the perforamnce thereof.

Hence, Congressional ratings are inherently flawed. Because why thye have like a 15% approval rating, your Representative is most likely getting an 80%+ rating in his district because he brings home the bacon so to say.

I understand that, But what you say right there is reason our congress is so messed up their duties are too focused on the state and not on the whole.

Not really, it is the job of a congress man to help out his or her state but its also their job to better the country as a whole too and their is too many of them that only care about a certain group and or place. They don't care if a tax break for one group will effect many as long as it helps the ones who voted for him or her.

Have you ever read the Constitution? What about The Federalist Papers?

The purpose of the Congress is to represent the State's interest at the Federal level. Thats how the government is designed.

For instance, they didn't use to be elected; but selected by the State Legislators. This was done so that the State's interest was represented. Not so they could worry about the other states.

What we have seen over the years is an attempt to erode away the place of the State government and an increase in the power of the Federal government. That wasn't in the plan either.
