Beating Azetlor on Professional Difficulty

Greetings,

First time poster, long time lurker.

I love the new video game. Like…teary-eyed-at-the-ending-love this game.

After beating it on Experienced, though, I needed more. Lacking any multiplayer (playing on the PC), I still wanted more and restarted on Professional. I now find myself playing the same parts over and over again and wanting to shout profanities at the screen.

I'm currently stuck while fighting the Azetlor at the end of the library level. This was tough on Experienced, but on Professional….wow. I've replayed it 20 times and even gotten it down to 1 hash left in the health many times but just can't finish it.

Problems I'm Having:
- The Azetlor's area attack is huge and by the time you stand back up from the first attack he's already recharged another one.
- The Ghostbusters AI is useless on Professional. They're basically just there to keep you on your feet. This would be fine except that they typically go down in one hit and never dodge anything. They also waste time shooting at Book Bats while the Azetlor smashes them from behind.
- The Azetlor is too huge and fast to avoid. He can be right on top of me in about 4 steps from the complete opposite side of the map.

Things I've Tried:
- Strafing around the Azetlor while trying to avoid his ranged attack and keep the GB's on their feet. This doesn't work because I usually die trying to help the other GB's.
- Going back and forth between the portals and taking potshots from across the map. This works but takes too long without at least a little help from the other GB's, who go down in 2 seconds. With the sluggish running and dodging the game has, all it takes is one small mistake trying to book it for the portal and I'm dead.

I'm stumped and very frustrated. I'm terrified of what the stone angels are going to be like. Complicating things even more is the fact that the PC version runs terribly on anything middle of the line as far as systems go. Aiming is very difficult with the choppiness. Please, any suggestions are appreciated.

He just seems too huge for the map. All other huge ghosts in the game just float around the scenery while you fight minions or take potshots.

When I fought him I just used the pot shot technique, take one of the portal on either end, flip it on to the Boson Dart, fire one or two Darts, and wait until he gets close, leap into the portal. You will be on the other side of the room and as noted it will take him a few seconds to even get close. Also be sure to abuse the Dodge Button when heading back into the portal to avoid his range attacks. Keep it up and you should be able to beat him.

On the Professional difficulty setting, you should use the portals nearby to stay away from Azetlor's attacks. Then use either the Shock Blast from range and aim at the general area of the glowing bit or, use a combination of Proton Stream and Boson Darts if you have the accuracy nailed. I found that as long as you kept your distance and waited until he went to attack the other guys you were fine to revive a downed teammate.

The thing about professional difficulty is, if one of your team goes down you got to drop whatever you're doing even if its trapping a ghost that takes 2 seconds to go save them or you're pretty much doomed.

Use the end of the room portals, and make sure you have maxed your boson. So when he come towards you, you teleport to the other end, make sure he is around the middle of the room before you go in the portal. One thing that helped me is the hit and run tactic. Stay infront of portal, then shoot , if he attacks you with negatively charged ground spikes, duck left. Then when the spikes dissolve, he should be near the middle of the room, so don't even look and go into the portal. Then rinse and repeat till he dies. One more helpful tip is NEVER back in into the portal. Always make sure you are facing it.

Just played it another 13 times without luck. A lot of my problem is simply playing it on the PC. “Games for Windows”, which are basically just console ports, always eat more memory then they should because they're not optimized for the PC. I've turned all settings down and still get lots of choppiness. Everytime I go through a portal my frames-per-second go to hell and it takes me several seconds to get control again. By that time he's on top of me. I also keep getting stuck on the portals when trying to run away because of this. Something about the portals just kills my framerate.

I play games exclusively on the PC and am very disappointed with the PC port of this game. I need about 2 or 3 gigs of more memory to truly support it. I've had him down to one sliver of health and then missed my mark with the portal, just barely getting stuck on the edge. Then bam, I'm dead again.

If this wasn't a Ghostbusters game I would have quit by now as boss repetition is a video game trope I've never been able to stand. However, with no multiplayer or co-op mode on the PC it's either play it on this difficulty or never really bother playing it again. I'm considering getting the Wii version now and playing it on my girlfriend's console just so I can go through it again with a different twist.

As for reviving teammates; that is normally true except on this level. They typically get taken out in the first 10 seconds after you rip the mask off and end up in the middle of the room. Running to the center of the room is suicide considering how fast he gets on top of you and how often he can make attacks.

Anyone else feel like this just wasn't a very well-developed boss fight? It all seems very cheap to me. Even the book bats managed to take me out at one point when I was doing very well (2 health slivers left). Way too many ways to just knock you down.

Wow, finally beat it while burning the midnight oil. Also went ahead and finished the Museum level as well since I was on a roll.

Went much faster after I supercharged my boson darts. I had neglected to do so and had just barely enough money left to buy the upgrade. Still took me another 3-4 tries but I managed to pull it off. Found the best trick was just to fire one shot and then run for the portal while he was still in the middle of the room whether I hit or missed. By the time I would get back to the portal he'd be right on me so when I came out the other side I had enough time to find my bearings again. I was also lucky enough not to get sideswiped by book bats this time.

I did a happy dance of joy when I finally made it. I'm still interested in everyone's opinion of the design of the level though. The Library is one of my favorites up until this battle.

Yes, I read all of the replies. They were very helpful. Made it easier for me to pick up on the rhythm of the fight. Also reminded me to upgrade the boson which helped a lot. SOME luck was still needed though.
