Well, I sit corrected.

I figured the door got permanently closed when they built the computer console that occupies that chunk of the rear cabin.

No computer in the Ecto-1 (just the 1a). The door actually doesn't open anymore from the outside. But you could reach in from the front and open that side door if you really wanted to.
Why would it not be able to open from the outside of the car, did they disable the exterior door handle or something?

I always send any update pictures to Rockford but this is not really an “official” update just a little something I wanted to showoff.

This here is the fully shaded engine block. I might do a little more to it but this is basically the final product. All is left to do is apply the textures and materials to it.

I used Chad's ECTO-1 engine for reference. But some parts I could not see in the pictures so I used a 3D model 59 Cadillac someone else made for reference too. And I mean for reference only, I did not steal any parts of that other persons model engine. This engine block was made entirely by me.

Well I don't know what to do anymore because the program is giving me error messages every 5 minutes, just like before. But before I was able to export it into a .3ds format file and then import it back into Zmodeler but now that's not an option because I already did a bunch of work on the shading. When you export it into .3ds format it screws up the shading which before didn't effect me because I didn't do any shading but now half the car is shaded and I can't afford to lose all that work.

I really don't know what to do now and I can't see myself finding a solution. All I have to say is Zmodeler sucks.

Thanks

As you all know from my earlier post Zmodeler had a meltdown on me and I almost lost my mind and gave up knowing I had to redo a bunch of work on the car's shading. But I never gave up and I successfully finished the shading and texturing on the car's exterior and engine area.

Now at the end of each day when I work on the model I make a copy of the file so if the program starts giving me error messages again I'll have a backup.

It might look a bit rough in the pictures but it's not because the model is that way it's because my computer screen is not set to that high of resolution so the pictures look jagged.

Man you're lucky. I tried modeling Ecto 1 several times. Each time after getting most of it done I'd run into an issue with Windows which resulted in me having to format my hard drive a few times losing everything. Then I finally got a new PC… Ended up having SATA hard drives so I can't even hook up my old ones to grab all the files I had, lol.

BigMac, you've made amazing progress! I'm really digging these, as I know they will be very helpful as you contribute diagrams and other insightful things soon on Ghostbusters.net.

I'm heading to see my car this Wednesday. I can take my HD Camera and get some shots for you. Let me know if you need anything.
