Hmm…yes, that would make for a good reference tool, even better than the screengrab Chad provided. I'll try to make the guy a bit rounder and less blocky, though…still, it is a good reference for figuring out how to position his arms, and where the joints should go.

Thanks again, Jay!

If anyone is interested, I also dug up this old one (done by Johnny Sparks if I remember correctly). Good if you want the simple vintage look.

This was made (as I was told) using a scan of one of the prototype prop Stay Puft Stickers from the film. The only real difference that I can see is that is there is no “Stays puft even when toasted” text when we see it in the movie.

I'll go for an even more vintage look than that when I do mine, Peter. In my mind's eye, the Stay Puft Man has a lot in common with a mid-1930s cartoon character, so I give him the Mickey Mouse eyes and a slightly more streamlined shape, especially on the “bib” he wears (or whatever it's called).

I have some good news! The main “sketch” is finished, and it looks so good I may end up submitting it as the final version. I don't have access to a scanner today, so I'll do my very best to keep it from getting too smudged (0.7mm lead tends to have that effect). I think I'm off to Hobby Lobby now to get a new set of pens and a 0.5mm pencil.

EDIT: The font JettaJeffro posted earlier looks more like the letters are being “inflated”, and for the company logo, I'll design something that better suggests “letters made of marshmallows”.

Okay, the line-art has been inked, and I copied the drawing last night to get rid of the excess blue and red lines with which I sketched the body. Now I just have to get out the color inks and finish him off.

One thing I notice is that I've given him more of a cylinder-shaped head than the “loaf-of-bread” shaped one Johnny Sparks gave his. Ah, well, I guess it looks more like a real marshmallow, and it's closer to the original designs by Dan Aykroyd and Joe Medjuck. At least the face is accurate…

EDIT: By the way, do you want the “STAY PUFT” lettering on the hat?

Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but isn't Stay Puft actually chucking a marshmallow into his mouth? That's what I've always seen.

You know…head back, mouth open, marshmallow throw. It's unclear on the screencap but that's what I've always seen.

No, my dear fellow, that would be cannibalism. It is much frowned-upon among the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Folk.
