First off I'll say, I know nothing of recent movies and their costs to make. But I'm sure it would be way more than $30 million (which was GB1's budget).

I'm guessing GB3 would need a budget of about 50 million. That includes the payroll.

50 million would be a considerably LOW budget for a film of Ghosbuster's caliber. Nowadays 50 million does it for your average action flick…but not something of a blockbuster magnitude. Also consider that if it was to be done, would you really want the filmmakers to rely on crappy CGI? Sure…for some things its OK, and necesarry for others… but Ghostbusters for me was always about things being GRANDE. I want to see BIG EXPENSIVE BEAUTIFUL ***REAL*** sets, wonderfully crafted miniatures, and cities being threatened with hundreds upon hundreds of extras fleeing from the scene! Now that, my friends, costs at LEAST 75 million smile

If it happened, Ghostbusters 3 wouldn't get a huge budget. It's not as HUGE as you say. Sure, WE'D love to see it, but would the general public? Is it enough for SONY to bank on making money?

The Ghostbusters market never really diminished…so it STILL is a pretty large property. And a GUARANTEED moneymaker. And it's almost guaranteed that if it WAS made, it would be greenlit with an initial budget of at least 70 mil. Look at Terminator 3 for example. It's been 11 years since the last Terminator movie. And although it hasn't been in the media too much during those 11 years past the point of its height, it remains a profitable franchise, just like alot of movies. Ghostbusters befell to the same fate as The Terminator series, the Indiana Jones series (another good example), the Back to the Future series, etc.. All these properties would generate HUGE profits for the studios…and would definately be made for budgets worthy of their names. Terminator got lucky and was brought out of the backburner recently…and greenlit at 150 mill. So… lets just hope that Columbia-Tristar wises up and gives Ghostbusters another go sooner or later.
