I think Aykroyd said over a year ago GB franchise has made over 1.6 billion. It has probably gone up. This number probably includes everything from the box office to retail things.

I really think to make Ghostbusters 3, it would cost at the very least 70 million, if not more.

I agree. They would have to spend enough money on it so it lived up to the first two.

While Terminator 2 probably did make more money, keep in mind that Ghostbusters was the largest grossing comedy in history until Men in Black. That's no small thing. As for the money for making GB3, I suppose it depends on who's in it. Will the original four be in it in some capacity? As I understand it, Bill Murray is still causing some trouble regarding that. I'm not going to hold my breath regarding GB3, but then, I'm not going to throw in the towel, either. We shall see, I suppose.

Most of the money will probably go for the effects. Aykroyd loves to make movies with big effects. His origional budget estimate for GB was four times what they actually spent on it.

Can't imagine how good another GB film would be - but remember what Dan said “Sony are looking for another Blair Witch”.

Basically, he is saying that Sony WILL NOT put alot of money up for a film….

Found this post by searching for the GB2 budget. I see that someone thinks the Terminator franchise made more than GB. Well, you're way off. Look here to see the biggest franchises…

While Ghostbusters isnt one of the top 5, it is still above Terminator, Die Hard, Alien and Superman! All of those are HUGE franchises. And Ghostbusters are more successful than them, just shows you how really huge Ghostbusters is. And if GB3 were ever to be released, it would definatly pass Jack Ryan and Back to the Future.
