That's good to hear and I trust both Dan and Harold to come up with a solid script. This is the GBs' big comeback and they can't fail with it.

Or it could be a nice big easy pay cheque just before he retires.
Not sure what sort of comeback a 64 year old bloke is looking for, at that age you should be looking forward to retirement, not working until you die.

Depends on the work. I doubt someone is going to stop doing a job they love just because they're reach the retirement age.

I feel most sequels not made by the original director to be “off” on a few or manly levels. Sequels made by the original director tend to be much better in quality.

I´m getting tired of only rumours and nothing official… If they´re going to do the movie, do it soon!!! Time is running and our guys are getting older and older!!

Not always the case, Empire Strikes Back was better than Star Wars, Aliens was better than Alien, The Incredible Hulk was better than HULK, The Dark Knight was better than Batman. We will also see how The Hobbit films will be now they are being directed by Guillermo del Toro as opposed to Peter Jackson who did the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

i would say Jedi was better than Empire, but not better than Hope. my opinion though. Still with the Alien series and Star Wars, it was a different time, different approach, they actually wanted to make a good movie, and chose the director that best suit the film.

The Incredible Hulk was a reboot. and the Nolan-Batman films, is a completely new series of films, that are not a continuation of the Burton and later Joel Assface series.

But those are adventure/action movies, a comedy series is a much different approach than setting up big action scenes. Its knowing the characters and the actors who portray them to make the scenes comical, its also seeing those actors make sarcastic quips while being chased by monsters, and only the original director will know how to make something like that hit or miss.

When a new director takes over a comedy franchise, we get poop. Look at European Vacation and “Christmas Vacation 2”, what about Meatballs 2,3,4,5, and Police Academy 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,etc..

Different writers can also ruin a franchise, Indy 4, though it was passable, seemed a bit distant from the other 3.

Overall, if a director starts the franchise, the director should close the franchise, unless they die.

I found the article on a comics website:

GHOSTBUSTERS 3

Vulture reports Columbia would like to go forward without director Ivan Reitman at the helm. "a source tells us that Reitman and all three original principals (Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis … sorry, Ernie Hudson!) have a deal that says that if any of the four of them don’t like any element of a new Ghostbusters, they can singlehandedly veto and kill the project; it has to be unanimously approved before going forward. (Considering that both Aykroyd and Ramis have been consulting on the story, Murray is likely the only unknown quantity on the actors’ side.) However, the key difference is that Columbia would love for these actors to be onboard to pass the torch and cross the streams. Not so with Reitman,“ writes Vulture. Is it only a matter of times before I replace ”3“ in the item title with a ”Begins" tag? Release date: 2011?

I thought thats what this tread was about? Wasn't it debunked a few postings ago from another website? See this is what I hate, we still have no solid word about either of these two rumours, they want Reitman out or if Sony really said this isn't true.

It was debunked, with an article posted on the last page… and the same day as that Comic Book Resources one:
