Computer problems: Part Deux

I swear this last year, specifically in the last few months, I have been having THE worst time with computers problems. First my video card went out earlier this year and now something new has reared its ugly head this morning.

Last night, after getting home from work I decided to uninstall some long unused programs and getting rid of files from my computer in order to make way for the installation of the upcoming Warhammer MMO as well as Wrath of the Lich King (I like WoW, so sue me). After getting all the programs and files I wanted off, I disk scanned the computer and then once that was complete left to defrag while I went to bed as at this point it was last 4 in the morning EST.

I woke up this morning and went check on the computer and to my surprise the screen had lines going up and down the entirety of the monitor, the computer was running really slow…slow to the point I would describe it as “in slow motion”. Every window I opened up would slowly open (as if fading in) and then when closed they slowly closed (as if fading out) …and the mouse cursor was running SO slow that when you moved it the cursor itself disappeared and the only indication you would have that it actually was moving was a long trail that began to disappear only after the cursor stopped movement.

Anyone got any suggestions what THIS could be….I have my thoughts as to what it could be…but I want to get some opinions from people whom helped me with my video card before.

Same happened to me a few days ago. I blame vista - as I blame many issues. I restarted and it came back just fine. But it is rather shocking to see in action.

It's kind of hard for me to blame Vista since the computer all this is happening on has XP.

But anywhom…the problem has been diagnosed. Some people were telling me to check the drivers for the Video card and when that didn't work on a whim I plugged the monitor to another computer and it was doing the same thing on that computer so it seems it was a problem with the Monitor.

strange that a monitor would cause that problem (*egon)

Indeed. I intend on borrowing a friends monitor this weekend and plugging it up to the PC just to make sure there isn't something OTHER than just the monitor wrong with it.

The only think I could think of that would cause that problem in a monitor is some sort of short. still that's weird though

The Monitor in question is a LCD Flat screen panel monitor that came with the HP Media Center Computer when my Father purchased it for me about 2 almost 3 years ago…and admittedly It hasn't been taken care of as well as the computer itself has been…
