being the nerd i am, i got thinking the other day, in the second movie in the court scene they metioned how they were forbidden from using the ghostbusting equipment by the city. what became of the contaiment unit during the time between when they were forbidden and when they went back in buisness? it could not have been shut off because it would have blown up again but yet at the same time they were not allowed to use their equipment.

It's assumed that after the Gozer incident, they were hit with lawsuit after lawsuit by the city. Assuming this, they probably didn't really have the time or money to fix it at all in the first place, let alone being able to use it at all because of the ban on their equipment from the city. Hence when it's GBII, they're just a bunch of has beens who had their 15 minutes of fame and wore it out real quick.

RGB isn't cannon, so it doesn't count.

I assumed that when the dimensional gate closed, the ghosts that escaped when the containment unit blew were sucked back (well, all save for Slimer, I'm still not sure how he came to be hanging around the firehouse).

RGB is sure as heck canon, as Akyroyd and Ramis wrote it. I guess you can have TWO distinct versions of the Ghostbusters universe.

1) Movie 1, then they are sued to hell and back, and then Movie 2 happens.
2) Movie 1, then RGB and then they have a down time and come back in Movie 2.

Really you can put RGB in between the two movies and have them STILL being sued. I think there is two different versions with who wrote the stuff.

On the containment unit, since no ghost in it, no need to keep power to it. When they came back, repaired it and powered it back up.

Um, no they didn't. They're credited for the characters and for creating the Ghostbusters premise, but they didn't write any of the episodes of The Real Ghostbusters.

That said, I don't see the problem with the RGB explanation, but that's me.

In a older draft of the Ghostbusters II script, there was a scene featuring Peter, Egon and Ray returning to the Firehouse, which was in an even worse state then when they'd bought it as the damaged caused by the explosion hadn't been repaired.

Where did you ever get this idea?

As Ben said, they are credited for creating the characters, nothing more, nothing less. Neither of them ever wrote an episode of RGB.

Which is also probably why we really don't see the firehouse till after the courthouse battle scene.

Not to throw too much of a monkey wrench into the RGB cannon idea, but Egon did mention in an episode referring to the Mood slime that we used against Vigo the Carpathian.

I just assumed there was two ways to interpret it.

1. like he said before, Two movies and that was it
2. the cartoon was “real”, the movies were made based on their(RGB) experiences (ie the guys attending their own movie premiere) and the RGB guys really just kept on going with the premise of the second movie being outta business was dramatic license.

I tend to go by number 2 myself.
