Preferrably factual? I'm pretty new to the whole idea of a GB3, haven't looked into it much before. I could maybe scour through all the topics on this board to find these answers, but I figure making this topic would be a whole lot easier. Any help appreciated.
I've heard that GB3 cannot go through without Bill Murray's consent. Why not, how does he have any authority over this? Is Murray the only major hurdle to making this film, or are others against it too?
Any explanations on why Murray is seemingly so resentful towards GB?
I realize there are a lot of GB fans still around, including on these message boards, but does the kind of fanbase needed to make a GB3 movie profitable still exist? If the right fanbase does exist, are there any other reasons why Sony might not want to make the film?
If Sony is not going to make another film of GB, then what exactly are they planning on doing with the franchise? Is there any possibility Sony would be willing to sell the franchise to a company that would be willing to do bigger things with it? Any estimates on how much the franchise is worth?

Heres the deals as the fans know. Back in 1983 Bill was put incharge of his character Dr. Peter Venkman. He owns a right of the rights to the movie, 1 out of 4. So they cant do it till he says yes, which wont happen anytime soon. Sony owns the film rights, logo, and some other stuff. They could be a Gb3 but it be a lot of “legal problems” incordding to Dan. Just be happy with the movies we got and the mershidse thats out.

Bill, like the other actors, own the rights to the character they played as well as each on-screen Ghostbuster owning on quarter of the film rights. While others haven't gone into detail now and then, Bill is the only actor we've been aware of for years who doesn't want to do a third movie.

This is a little vague, his ‘official’ reason is that he doesn't want to do sequels, some have said he may respect GB to not let there be another possible bad sequel…but there's no proof to this, further speculation on a falling out with Dan and Harold over an unmentioned and forgotten incident may suggest that he may be doing it out of bitterness, but that remains to be see.

There may be a big enough fanbase, but nobody published numbers of how many are needed, initially Sony refused, like on MIIB because of financials, but seeing as MIIB was made, and was a poor cash in on MIB, it seems not only hypacritical, but also counter productive.

Your guess would've been as good as mine, apparantly EGB was a test to see if a third movie could work, and it bombed, maybe there weren't any big plans for the franchise had a movie been made, but a resurrection of the cartoon would've been great. Sony would never sell the rights to Ghostbusters, it may not do anything with them, which is more then regrettable, but they're keeping a tight lease on them, such as revoking the rights from USF and so on.

I wouldn't exactly call Garfield critically acclaimed. I'll bet you that if they offered him enough money, Murray would be in line to do GB3 in no time. But there's no way they're gonna give him a starring role, and equally no way they're going to pay him big bucks for a cameo. It's a shame that they have to even be thinking about pandering to such an asshole as Murray in the first place.

There's no way the originals could star in a GB3. Have you seen Ramis? He doesn't exactly have Egon's figure anymore. There's no way they could afford to give Murray a starring role anyway, with all the money he'd probably be demanding for it.

All 4 of the originals will still star in the movie. I wouldn't say that they'll have the same type of roles, like running around and such, but they'll still star if this gets made.

Bill is the star of Gb1 and Gb2, Dan and Harold where supporting characters. Lets say there was a Gb3 and all accounts of the first draft is that Dan and Harold will be the stars. Bill was only going to make a cameo, Dan, harold and Ernie where going to try the new rookies.

Oh and trust me Bill only did Gb2 cause he was offer a lot of money, and i think Sony has offer him money for Gb3 but it wont happen. He likes the movies, his even said that before but his not a true fan like we are.
