Could this change Bill Murrays mind?

Normally, I wouldn't jump to Bill's defence… but I do wonder what the real Bill Murray is under all we've heard… it'd be nice to just have some definate, 100% confirmation he's a jackass…

Aw c'mon, Bill Murray doesn't owe any of you anything and it's up to him what he does with his life. I haven't seen any evidence of him being a jackass - he may be, but he's not a friend of mine so I really don't care what his personality is like in real life. He's an actor, I've enjoyed the movies he's done, that's all I'm bothered about.

If Bill Murray doesn't want to do Ghostbusters 3 then that's up to him. It's pointless hating him for it - it's his life and if he can spend his time doing what he wants to do just like the rest of us. He hasn't had anything to do with Ghostbusters since the Eighties - if you had a job you used to do in the Eighties, would you do it again now just because someone said “hey, you were really good at your job back then so I demand you go back and do it now”. If you're enjoying what you're doing now more, you'd say no way - if people hated you for that then I'm sure you'd tell them where to go. Those people arn't your fans.

Good point there, Andy.

But all I want to add is that he doesn't really need to ‘do’ anything. He just has to say ‘YES’ you can make GB3, and has a 2min cameo to END the character he despises, and we can continue to go forward with a beloved franchise that everyone on his board loves.
He's stopping a film that:
1) he's not even interested in
2) he didn't create
3) he doesn't like or cherish (Wonder if he's he even watched them?)

Of course I wouldn't mind a new movie, game, tv show, merchandise, etc. but he's the guy stopping it all. Oh, and I'm sick of ‘rehash’ dvd releases every several years.

Sorry, had to get it out.

Good point there, Andy.

I don't know where you've heard that, but I seriously doubt it's true.

1) Of course he's interested in Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters 2 is the only sequel he's ever been in - he was doing pretty well for himself in 1989 and would have had tons of offers back then. He didn't do it for the money, so he must have a fondness for it.

2) He didn't create it but he starred in it and helped make the movie what it was. You can't really credit any one person with this really - lots of people played an important part in making Ghostbusters, including Bill.

3) He doesn't like it? Again, the only sequel he's returned for is Ghostbusters 2. Why do you say he doesn't want to do Ghostbusters 3 because he doesn't like or cherish it? I'd say the opposite - he's done two credible movies, the first of which is considered a classic. If anything it looks like he wants to preserve Ghostbusters for what it was and not tarnish its reputation with mediocre cash-in sequels with a replacement cast.

For the record, Ghostbusters 3 has had Bill Murray's backing. It's been officially said (most notable in the recent Harold Ramis interview) that Bill Murray said he'd cameo in the film but Columbia wouldn't give the movie a green light. It seems he's since decided that Ghostbusters is best left as it is or he's simply moved on - either way I see Bill has more of a fondness for Ghostbusters than a hatred.

I disagree Andy, and I'll go through your list to tell you why…

1. He's not interested in doing the film, as for Ghostbusters 2, they apparently had to fight and kick to get him to do THAT one and they had to offer him all kinds of extra cash to get him to do it.

2. This is a very very true fact, nobody is doubting that Bill Murray did play in important role in making Ghostbusters what it is today, however, at this point in time, WE as fans are running OUT of time with the original cast getting older all the time, Harold Ramis not being in the best shape of his life… Soon it may not be possible to do a GB3 EVER with any of the originals in it.

3. To the best of my knowledge, Bill DOESNT like Ghostbusters and really didnt think too much of it when he did the 1st movie. I'm not saying “UGH! BLASPHEMY! BILL MURRAY MUST LOVE IT AND WORSHIP THE MOVIE!!!” No… he has a right as an actor to think of the movie as what it was to him… a job. I've posted this other places on the board, but its prevalent here, so Ill say it again… Bill did Ghostbusters because he was friends with the other guys and because Columbia offered him a contract saying that if he did Ghostbusters, he would get a starring role in some other Columbia movie that was going to be made the following year. I dont remember the name of the flick, but I'll get back to you on that.

Now, just for clarification, I respect Bill as an actor, I think he's an EXTREMELY funny man, I love pretty much all of his movies (up until recently, I admire him for trying to try new things, but those are just not my taste). The reason I dislike him is because based on the opinion of those he has worked with, he is not a very friendly cat to be in a film with. Harold Ramis has even admitted to this on numerous occasions. the fact of the matter is, Bill may not hate Ghostbusters, but he sure as hell doesnt like it too much. I see Ghostbusters as a fond memory in the back of his head about hanging out with his old Second City buddies.

Where did you hear that then? I have to say I'm more of a Bill Murray fan than a Ghostbusters fan (infact I prefer Groundhog Day more to Ghostbusters). However I have never once heard anything about him disliking Ghostbusters at all. I've seen interviews with him where he's talked about the film fondly and I've only ever heard him say positive things about it.

Also do you honestly believe Bill Murray was forced into Ghostbusters 2? He looks to be enjoying himself and his performance easily rival's his performance in the first film. I don't like Ghostbusters 2, but Bill Murray is still incredibly funny, which saves the film for me. If Murray didn't want to do Ghostbusters 2, he wouldn't have done it - it's that simple. They couldn't force him into it - the same way they can't force him into Ghostbusters 3.

If you have any proof of Bill Murray saying he dislikes Ghostbusters (and not allowing the use of his likeness on action figures is not a reason) then I'd like to see it. However I don't think you'll find any as I'm certain he loves the movies.

I didnt say they forced him, but it took a LOT to get him to do it. and again, I dont dislike Bill as an actor, but I'm not sure if I would like him as a person at all.

As for his performance in Ghostbusters 2, thats nothing new, as Ive said before, Bill Murray is a fantastic actor and he is very professional, which is why his great performance in the movie does not reflect how he felt about doing the project.

P.S. I hope ur not taking any of this personally, its just a friendly discussion.

Yeah I have no idea if I'd like him as a person but that's another story entirely. Chevy Chase is said tobe as bad or worse but I still find some of his stuff funny.

Lol of course I'm not taking this personally - the only person who could is Bill Murray, and I aint him.

But even if it did take a lot to get him to do Ghostbusters 2, he still did it. It didn't work for any of the other films he starred in that spawned sequels and I'm sure they pushed him just as hard. If they had to push him into it, it's more likely he didn't want to do it to preserve the Ghostbusters name again. Maybe he just decided to eventually do Ghostbusters 2 because if he wasn't in it, it'd have been much worse. I've never seen any evidence he dislikes Ghostbusters at all - none. I find it funny you've all come to this conclusion.
