Cyclotron light holes

Has anyone found a reliable way to cut/drill the light holes in the “cyclotron” cake pan? I've torn up half a dozen now and still haven't found a method that works well. Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated.

Your best bet is fork over a few bucks and buy a hole saw for your drill if you don't already have one. Home Depot or other hardware stores caries ‘em - cheap ones too. First, cut a plywood insert that fit’s inside the pan. Reason: when you drill the holes, you will also drill into the wood which will keep the shape of the pan and prevent the metal from bending under pressure. It also acts as a “stop” for the cutter - when you see sawdust, you know you're through. As you drill, be sure to drill at a medium/slow speed while squirting a little gear oil on the cutter. This helps to cut down on friction and prevent the metal from tearing thus giving you a nice clean cut.

Trust me, you'll be happy with the results.

sounds good, now where can I get the cycletron red lenses?

Thanks RoboProp, I'll try that. smile
And Moobyghost, I can help with the red lenses. Go to your local craft store and ask for red cellophane. To get a really red light you'll need several layers so get plenty (but don't worry, it's fairly cheap) cut the pieces big enough to cover your holes with extra as gluing area and sandwich that between some clear plastic pieces (I used the heat molded plastic stuff that my Ecto-goggle welding mask came in.) Glue that to the inside of your cyclotron and make sure the bulb doesn't touch the lense.

That is what I would recommend.

As for the red lenses, take a look at Atomic Backpack Parts

The lenses they show at Atomic Backpack Parts say they're reflective lenses, do they just reflect outside light or are they translucent so you can put a light behind them?

Translucent.

speaking of, can anyone explain in very easy simple terms how to make the lights go in a circle, and what type of lights to use.

Go to Radio Shack and ask for a LED kit. You'll have to read the instuctions on how to synchronize it, but it shouldn't be too hard.
