Dave Coulier

After watching some greats from the ‘88 Season, I’ve come to realize a massive issue I have with Dave Coulier…aside from the fact that he makes Venkman sound like a California surfer:

when I hear him doing the voice, it sounds like he's “phoning it in” in regards to his performance. The thing is…I know he isn't….I know he's actually giving it his all, because I've seen his other work.

That's right…no matter how much he gives it, he sounds like he's not even trying; basically, it boils down to this: he's a really bad actor…and in his trying to do Venkman, it couldn't have been more obvious.

I kinda feel bad for him..though he does seem to shine as Animal on Muppet Babies…

This topic's been done loads of times before, so I'll just say the following:

Dave Coulier - a good Bill Murray
Lorenzo Music - a GREAT Peter Venkman.

That sums it up for me.

Lorenzo Music sounded very natural in his performance, but Coulier sounded to fake and forced for my liking. Coulier's Venkman also sounded like a dimwit, which didn't remotely reflect Murray in my opinion. Music may not have sounded anything like Murray, but the characterisation was much closer.
Still, i'm less bothered by any of this , than i am to the changes they made to Janine

This is the best description really, and its been said many times. Dave Coulier was doing an impression of Bill Murray, rather than bringing his own voice to Peter Venkman like Lorenzo Music did.

That's the difference.

Can anyone confirm if Dave was also the voice of Charlie Venkman in “Treasure of the Sierra Tamale”? If it is, then we have evidence that Coulier could play one member of the Venkman clan very well.

That's how I think too. Although if you look on IMDB, more people seem to think Couler was better because he sounded more like Murray…

I don't hate how he did it, but it sounded fake when he talked.

I haven't rewatched the DVD of “Sierra Tamale” yet, but my memory is of Maurice LaMarche doing Charlie, in something similar to his Inspector Frump/Typical Gruff Brooklyn Guy voice. TV.com and some of the other sites list Coulier, though. One of us is clearly wrong.

of course altering the relationship he had with Slimer didn't really help either….

and most of the bad jokes sounded like they came from Coulier; at least when they wrote jokes for Music to say….they worked.

Watch the language.

Not sure why you got so angry at that, he said it because he regretted doing Garfield.
