Do you beleive in God?

many manage to overcome the odds and acheive goals and aspirations on a smaller scale.

Examples would be nice. I'm with Holbrook, I don't think anyone here has ever done something where they used willpower to beat odds.

Unless you count getting out of bed and going to work when you would rather sleep in as using determination to overcome adversity, I just don't believe those kind of scenarios exist in the everyday life of normal human beings..

Any kind of acheivement which reqires hard work really for example, physical fitness, good grades, etc etc These types of things both require hard work, will and determination which I thing is what Peter Venkman was referring to when he used Rocky as an example.

Dude posts on a message board for a sci-fi movie and has the Japanese version of the Green Ranger in his avatar. I'm not going to be easily convinced he's into bodybuilding.

Although…I guess if he was overweight once and worked hard to get skinny…I could see that.

How dare you say that? You know NOTHING about me. What does having a Power Ranger avartar have to do with anything? What, just cause I'm a Power Rangers fan doesn't mean I cannot excercise?

What is your problem exactly? I LOVE THE ROCKY MOVIES, and I LOVE TO EXCERCISE. What the hell is so hard to beleive? Just cause I'm a Power Rangers fan? Yeah right, don't say things unless you don't even know about, cause I am a Rocky fan, and I like excercising and working out.

Yes, I have never fought Apollo Creed, for one good reason, he isn't real. How is it I cannot admire Rocky? How dare you say that crap, without even knowing anything about me?

I have never been overweight before. I was just never physcially fit, and Rocky is one of the things that got me going into trying to keep fit, and I have accomplished that. Been doing that for about 3 years now, and I keep going at it. THAT is why I use Rocky as an example.

Peter Venkmen
I LOVE TO EXCERCISE.

To be fair, ANYONE on this message board could say those exact same words and they'd be lying just as much as you are.

I could talk about how once again you're taking yourself WAY too seriously and acting insulted and overreacting when I wasn't actually trying to offend you. (Geez, how many times can you say the phrase “How dare you. You don't know me” over and over in one post?)

But instead, I've found something more interesting I'd like to bring to the attention of the viewing audience. I've even decided to use bold and bigger font sizes on the key parts, just to help you see the point I'm trying to make.

It would be nice if you appreciated my thoughtfulness in doing this for you, but I expect that won't happen…

Anyway, here we go:

Bo Holbrook
Allow me to speak metaphorically for a moment. Keep in mind. The next few sentences is ENTIRELY metaphorical and should not be interpreted literally.

Since you're like Rocky Balboa, When did you fight Apolo Creed? When did you go in as the underdog and defy all expectations on a scale so grand the whole world took notice? When did that happen, sir?

Peter Venkmen
Yes, I have never fought Apollo Creed, for one good reason, he isn't real.

Reading is fundamental.

and acting insulted and overreacting when I wasn't actually trying to offend you.

How exactly did you think what you said was not gonna be insulting? You said I had a Power Rangers avartar and not gonna be easily convinced I'm not a body builder? How can I not that without any offence?

Bo Holbrook
Peter Venkmen

Christ, you're sensitive.

All I was suggesting is that people who post on internet message boards aren't commonly known for having athletic interests.

Everyone here is some degree of nerd, and for the love of God, mature adults shouldn't be ashamed of that or try to deny it. There's nothing WRONG with being a “nerd”, it's simply a word that describes what categories your interests and hobbies fall into. It's not the 80's anymore, the word no longer means you wear thick-rimmed glasses and a pocket protector.

Ok, sorry. That I get. Fact remains, I'm a Rocky fan.

Me too, as well as a self confessed nerd, Ghosthead (which are both probably one and the same thing in my case) and atheist.
