Allow me to speak metaphorically for a moment. Keep in mind. The next few sentences is ENTIRELY metaphorical and should not be interpreted literally.

Since you're like Rocky Balboa, When did you fight Apolo Creed? When did you go in as the underdog and defy all expectations on a scale so grand the whole world took notice? When did that happen, sir?

What's the point of asking that? He's taking on the whole beat-the-odds aspect of the character - that's the literal part. Pointing out he never fought Apollo Creed on National TV is like pointing you didn't hang with Jesus or get your name in the Bible.

He was sharing who his patron saint of perseverance was with someone else who had shared theirs. That should have pretty much been the end of it.

Your saint is canonized, which is certainly a big deal, but given you're not religious, how is you adopting Jude any different from him adopting Sly?

How could you miss that entire huge discussion about whether or not the guy had actually faced adversity and thus, had a good reason for comparing himself to Rocky?

I didn't - I'm talking about why Bo (and you, since you went out of your way to highlight it, remember) posed his metaphorical question. Why pose a question with restrictions on the answer (and one that got him jumped on when he did answer anyhow - that was you again, by the way)?

And while we eventually got a discussion out of it, against all odds, and it was a great, if back-handed discussion of Pete's reasoning, I'm curious to hear Bo reciprocate.

What does Saint Jude symbolize so perfectly to an grumpy atheist?

This thread veered way off topic several times. It's time to put this one to bed.
