Do you think that the Ghostbusters would have licences for their proton packs by now?

In the original film the Ghostbusters were using “Unlicenced nuclear accelerators”.

In Ghostbusters II there didn't seem to be any indication as to whether they had obtained any licences to use them.

I wonder if they'd still be using unlicenced equipment now. How exactly would they go about obtaining such a licence anyway?

Has anyone else ever thought about this?

Considering the fact that the City shut them down virtually immediately following the events of the first movie…probably not.

I'm more interested in how they got the nuclear material in the first place. Probably the same way as Doc Brown.

I can see it now, Egon helping Doc Brown with the creation of the Time Machine. His payment? Some of the left over Plutonium

Maybe. The other possibility would be some connection through the University. Maybe a someone snuck it out the back door for them.

Why would the State or Federal government license the usage of Nuclear powered weapons on domestic soil to its own citizens?

It means that the Federal Government would then ask them to provide the secrets of the packs. The possibilities are endless.
