I would like to know whether you think Ghostbusters 3 has to be set in New York. For instance, would you mind if the movie was set in, lets say, Egypt , where the Ghostbusters have to go there and get rid of ancient egyption spirits or go to London to trap some ghosts?

The Ghostbusters would have to be based in New York…but apart from that? I think it would be better if the main story did take place in locations across the globe: Why does the world always begin to end in New York?

I dunno, it would be better if it stayed in New York, its an interesting setting. Lots of Buildings to destroy :evil:

NY & the surrounding areas have so much to offer, why go elsewhere? NYC is an epicenter for weirdness & as an issue of Legion pointed out, NYC is built over, in effect, an ancient Indian burial ground, thousands of immigrants died in building the city up & so on.
If a third film would be filmed would be made, I wish it would stay clear of “the world is doomed scenario” because you think the city's administration would have learned their lesson after disasters #1 & #2! {I'm working on a fan fic that embraces this idea}

In an extension to what Jersey said, Ghostbusters, and most of it's various incarnations (RGB, EGB, comic etc) have been set in New York, it's even the source of injokes in other series, such as Spider-Man, it would be wrong to move Ghostbusters totally away from New York, as it would be giving up so much material…however, showing scenes of pandaemonium in other major citites/countries is something I would not be against, as the end of the world sooner or later has to pick on London or Paris…or even Moscow.

Like most everyone else I agree it should mainly be set in NYC–as Reitman said, NYC is a critical character in the GB universe, and part of why the overall story works. Maybe one scene in upstate NY or even New England somewhere with the boys busting a ghost in an old barn or some rural area that has some history to it. Again, only if the story called for it, and only if it was less than roughly 10% of the movie.
Perhaps a story where there's a connection to another town in the general North East area, like old Dutch farmlands, and half the team goes to investigate as the other half stays in NYC to take care of what's going on there. . .something along those lines would work.
