Don't like the cartoon as adult

I think this is all a fair critcism. I think there are two types of fans. Those that like the movies more and those that like the cartoon more.

What I mean is, when you say Venkman, who do you think of? Bill Murray or the cartoon? When you say Janine, do you think of Annie Potts or the cartoon?

I don't mean you can't like both, or like them eqaully. But I have found that there are certain fans that seem to think the GBs are all about silly humor and no seriousness. I understand, I grew up watching the cartoon too. I love it still. But the movie will always be the Ghostbusters for me. And RGB will always be a fun part of my childhood.

I like them both for different reasons.

The movies are fun movies.

The cartoon gave more actual ghostbusting and character development, IMO.

When I think of Ghostbusters, I tend to think of the live action people. However, my familiarity with them seems to come more from the cartoon.

When push comes to shove I guess I could some it up this way:

The movie introduced them as funny, cool, hip characters.

The cartoon made them feel like actual people.

I love the movies and still love RGB cartoon. The changes don't bother me as cartoon is another medium or adaptation. It's like Spider-man, I love comics. However each cartoon series and movies have different stuff to comics or reworked. E.g organic webbing in the movie.

I watch the cartoon and I don't think “Oh god they screwed this up from the film.” I think of it as separate entity made for that medium. It's like ghostbusters the video game. In the game you heal after standing still or you get rewarded for more damage. However the stuff in that is not made to BE the movies just expand on it as so is made for medium of Computer games.

I love the series (though I think it got worse near the end) even to this day. In fact bought uk dvd of series 1 and later in year will import usa boxset of every episode. While I do understand people not liking it. I do not understand criticizing it for making it work as a cartoon series.

Back in the fall I started watching all the episodes after I got the Time Life set… As I'm sure every knows, that first season is like mind blowing… Then it got pretty terrible… So I can see someone not liking it as much as an adult…

I never thought it got terrible.

Even after watching it as an adult, it seemed to go down hill over time.

The second season had some good episodes and even at it's worst, I would say the show was “average.”

Obviously, nothing compared to the first season, but there were still some hidden gems to be found. Even if they were fewer and far between.

That episode when they go to the operhouse and fight the Valkeries… Just looking at the animation made me want to vomit!

Make no mistake, the show had it's flaws.

But I always saw it as part of the television animation revolution that began around that time.

There were some great shows that did some great things - Muppet Babies, Garfield and Friends, Ducktales, etc. I think it becomes even more apparent when you look at what television animation was BEFORE they came out.

You know how have to wonder how much my dislike stems from the seasonal rot that happened over the years, I was born in 85' so I couldn't have seen much of the early seasons. In a bout of bordom I looked on the ghostbusters wiki and I was reminded of some things about the show that buged the hell out of me even as a child, before I cared about stuff like helicopper example. A major one would be the “peoplebusters” and to a lesser degree the boogie man ghost/monster.

The target thing to remember is that we always see the past through rose colored glasses. Anything we liked during our childhoods is going to be remembered as this magical thing until you go back and see it again. That said, I still love RGB, even after seeing it again. Even if it was partially made to sell toys, and lets face it, most cartoons are just 25-minute long commercials anyway, it meant I could have my own Proton Pack and Trap.

That episode's art is easily better than the style used in Fright at the Opera or Boo Dunnit.

while the animation in these episodes is a little clunky, at least the characters look like themselves, when halloween was forever has characters ballooning and shrinking in size between scenes, heads morphing mid conversation, and some really awkward movement progressions, also quite possibly the laziest climb to the top of a haunted building ever animated.

Did I mention the terrible ghost designs too? in my opinion it's a low point of the series.
