Ecto-1A nearly complete...minor detailing left

I have almost finished customizing the Kenner Ecto-1A. All I need to do:

*Remake the “compressed air marshmallow” for the back of the car. The duct tape is coming apart and I might use chrome tape for it.

*Rebuild the light rigs. Cardboard + Velcro = not a good idea–the cardboard came apart. I'll use basswood this time around.

*Finish putting Velcro on the “scrolling marquee” messageboards for the sides of the car.

*Make a new license plate. I have stickers and a pen, shouldn't be too hard.

*Find a way to paint the back window. I have a blue marker already, so don't worry.

*Stick blue masking tape on the insides of the back windows. It'll make them opaque, at least until I can find something better.

*Use two steel nuts, bought at Ace Hardware, to attach the tubing that comes from the marshmallow to the sides of the car.

I saw some kind of “chroming spray” in the back of Popular Science, and I might consider buying it for the bottom of the car and the front grill.

That should be it. Expect this year's Christmas card to feature a completed Ecto-1A.

Cheers,
NIX

Do you have any photos you can post of the project, Nix?

Not yet. I may take some this weekend as I don't have the car with me–it's being stored at a friend's, where it's safe and won't get damaged.

I do, however, have the website for that chroming material. Simply go to:

www.alsacorp.com for a free trial. Found the link in POPULAR SCIENCE, if you wanted to know. Should be useful for most of the crafters and hobbyists on this site.

Okay, at the King's request, here are pics of the nearly finished car. Enjoy, folks:

FIRST, HERE'S THE ECTO-1A FROM THE FRONT.

NEXT, HERE IT IS FROM THE SIDE:

FROM THE BACK…:

AND, FINALLY, THE EQUIPMENT ON THE ROOF RACK:

Yes, I know it's not entirely movie accurate, and it needs a LOT more work before it's finished, but keep in mind I'm using what I have available. The “warning stripes” look very worn out right now, but they're hard to come by in that scale!

It is indeed the Kenner ECTO-1A.

Couldn't find an actual Miller Meteor, so the Kenner one will just have to do for now.

Didn't either of you read the first post?

(Hmm, now that I read it myself, I probably shouldn't say that. I assumed all of you knew that I was customizing the Kenner ECTO-1A. So, I guess it's my goof after all.)

I'm pretty sure he's always stated in the first post that he was modding the Kenner Ecto-1A… I hadn't gotten the impression he was modding a real car.

Well, until the day comes when I wake up and find a Miller Meteor has magically appeared in my driveway…
