ECU Overload?

I was watching both GB movies earlier and this thought occured to me, is it possible for the Ecto-Containment Unit to ever overload and for the ghosts to require transfer to another ECU or similar storage facility for them? Surely the ECU despite it's high capacity isn't limitless with it's space and after some time the newly captured ghosts need to be transferred to another unit. Would you think the Ghostbusters have multiple ECUs for storing their captured ghosts when the main one becomes too overloaded or full?

While I do not remember if it was directly addressed or not, it is hinted by Egon in the first movie that the ECU does indeed have finite space within it.

If this is indeed true, it comes to reason that the amount of space each entity takes up / the amount of business they would be getting was greatly underestimated…or just naivety since this was the first time they had ever done something like that which would explain the reason why there wasn't a contingency plan in place for just such an occasion

I wonder where the extra ECUs would've been built? The basement only had one from what we've seen.

who says its got to be a fully articulated ecu? it could just be like overflow tanks connected to the main unit and when it gets too full some of the ghosts get moved

But where, exactly? A dangerous ghost can't just simply be moved anywhere, they need to be in a secure location where their imprisonment is assured so they don't escape.

it would be like an overflow valve when it main ecu got too full it would purge the excess in to one of the holding tanks which could be placed under the floor with accesses hatches if you needed to repair them

Methinks something like this should be addressed in lets say… a third movie?

I can't remember if any RGB or EGB episodes ever brought it up.

Would love for them to go a little bit more into the details of the ECU in the 3rd movie.

Worried about the ECU overloading? Here's an idea…after the original one blows up, build a much bigger one. Say out of a giant red boiler. Even better if you manage to generate a micro-dimension inside it that will enable you to easily contain, at one stated point, 7387 entities–and that was twenty years ago.

At that point, you almost never have to mention it getting too crowded. All you have to worry about then is the power going out or your crazy uncle shutting it off.
