Eddie Murphy as Winston

I was having a discussion about Ghostbusters with a friend of mine the other day, and he did not know that Eddie Murphy was originally considered for Winston. Somtimes I wonder how different it would have been if it was Murray,Aykroyd,Ramis, and Murphy. Do you guys think it wold have been better or worse with Murphy involved. It seems to me like his portrayal would have been more like my favorite portrayal of Winston, Arsenio's version.

Personally, I think it would have been worse. During that time period Eddie Murphy was a little vulgar in his comedy. I personally think Winston would have come across as a completely different character if someone other than the calm, cool, and collect Ernie Hudson had played him.

worse. it's not that I don't like him it's just that GB doesn't seem like his type of movie

I tend to agree a bit with James.

He might have been good, but I think Hudson brought the “everyman” type of character that Eddie wouldn't have.

But while you're asking it, why not ask how different it would've been with Belushi as Venkman, Murphy as Winston, and no Murray at all… the answer is EXTREMELY different, and probably a lot of people wouldn't have liked it nearly as much. I think if that was the case, it would've been a much more adult comedy, that wouldn't have spun a cartoon series, and all the merchandise it did.

I am in very much agreement with you on that. The Ghostbuster Franchise would have been completely and utterly different.

Tell you the truth I kind of forgot about Murphy's tendecy toward raunchy comedy at the time. I guess seeing him in all of these family movies recently had twisted my mind. Belushi as Venkman would have been entirely different and VERY strange. If either of these two had been in the movie it would surely have been R rated and not as successful. I like Hudson as Winston but I guess my preference for Arsenio Hall's version comes from his portrayal conveying the everyman quality but adding a bit more humor.

Eh. Belushi, like any other actor, was involved in some good stuff and some bad stuff. Over all I liked Belushi, but he did have some moments though
