EGB vs. RGB

The show really would've jumped the Shark if they'd used the packs, as awful and cliche they already were, at least they had the good graces to leave the ghostbusting to the Ghostbusters.

I must respectfully disagree, good sir; had they at least used the freakin' things, they'd be in my good graces now. They only “got their game on”, when Egon broke free, and helped the other three get free, and then they simply threw the equipment their way; looked incredibly pathetic.

“Yeah, we're the Jr. Ghostbusters, we're not afraid, we're tough and….here're your packs guys, because we're too much of p*ssies to use ‘em ourselves! YEAH!”

I wanted to smack them at that moment like you had no freakin’ idea….

I mean, seriously, they absolutely blew in the Slimer! cartoons, so that moment would've given them SOME redeemable value; due to how badly they effed it up, they now have none, and I totally sympathize with JMS when he said he'd gladly use them in the script…if he could run over them with a mach truck.

It wouldn't have.

As I wrote in a alternate version of The Boogieman is Back that I posted online, Slimer should've gotten Janine to help the guys.

Oh really? check out the demon in the episode Egon's Ghost…you honestly can tell me that the horribly drawn/poorly animated sphinx was freakier looking than that?

How about most of the freaky ghosts from Knock, Knock?

Not sure if i've seen them. I've only seen the few that have been uploaded on youtube. (I think there's only 3 or 4 episodes of Extreme Ghostbusters on there)

strange…last I was on Youtube, all the Extreme Ghostbusters episodes were up; that's how I was able to watch it & give it a second chance.

In fact…the same guy who had all the EGB episodes also had all the RGB episodes up too.

Heh…whattaya know; the guy closed his account…well that would definitely explain it.

Ok, then let me put it this way:

1. It would've been better had the Jr. Ghostbusters not been in the episode at all.

What they did do with them, however, made me despise them even more than I did before; how's that sound?

Totally agreed on both counts.

I have only seen the Back in the Saddle episodes of the Extreme Ghostbusters. While watching these two episodes alone probably does not grant me the authority to fairly critique the series, I felt that EGB missed the heart of what the Ghostbusters are about. I draw this conclusion based on two key observations.

1) Ray Stantz: Heart of the Ghostbusters.

I feel that if anyone was going to have kept the franchise alive it would have been Ray. After his accident in his previous job, the show has Ray selling used cars. I just don't believe Ray Stantz would give up his passion in the paranormal to be a salesman when the opportunity to get back into Ghostbusing presented itself. He would have gone back to the firehouse to help Egon and the new recruits (or never left it as Egon did). This theory really applies to all of the original, as being a Ghostbuster is part of who they are. I would think Peter would still handle some of the business aspects and that Winston would have provided field training on how to properly catch a ghost.

2) The iconography of the Ghostbusters.

I think that being a Ghostbusters means being part of a team, and the team wears uniforms. The flight suits and classic equipment are very iconic and that’s what people envision when they think about the Ghostbuster franchise. They are a visual representation of what it means to be a Ghostbuster. I think Kylie’s shoulder pads and Eduardo’s outfit disrupt the visual dynamic of the team. In my opinion, the series would have integrated better into the overall franchise if the new team had kept the iconic look (some variation and customization would of course be reasonable for individuation and originality).

On a side note, another thing that really threw me off in Part II is when the other Ghostbusters say to aim for the tendril and Eduardo doesn’t know what they were talking about. Besides the fact the tendril was the thing latching on to their helicopter and endangering the team, I would think a Ghostbuster should know what a tendril is (especially Egon’s student).

I’m sorry if my criticism comes across overly harsh. I just think one would need to do an exceptional job to match the group dynamic the original members achieved and I did not see it in this series. However, I admittedly have an incredible bias as I am very much endeared to Winston, Ray, Peter, and Egon.

I totally agree with that; in fact, I've agreed with that for about 10 years.

Like I said…it's as though Sony really didn't have their heart in this franchise continuation.

I mean…the classic Ghostbusters music isn't even present….at all.

It's like someone at Sony wanted to jumpstart the Ghostbusters franchise again…someone did, but only one person, and the higher-ups weren't impressed enough to really give it the backing it needed.

Youtube probably closed his account due to copyright or something.

I think you can buy all of the episodes of RGB and EGB off of the iTunes store anyway.

While I enjoy the EGB, RGB is just better. Why? The charecters, plain and simple. We want ray, peter, winston, egon ,and so on. EGB might have had better art work and stories (maybe) but not the charecters.
