Who you gonna call for Ghostbusters 3? Not the Reitmans. Ghostbusters 1 and 2 director Ivan Reitman ain't afraid of no comedy - he just wrapped July's Super Ex-Girlfriend with Uma Thurman - but has no plans to direct a third installment. Son Jason Reitman's Thank You For Not Smoking slimes the tobacco industry, but he says, "My indie satirical version of Ghostbusters would disappoint most people." - Hannah Tucker and Eric Kohn

I didn't see anyone else post about this yet.

?? Why're they even talking about it? Who even said GB3 was going to happen?

Looks like they just used it as a ‘space-filler’, seeing as though someone yet again asked him about a GB3 during a chat with him about his latest movie. You'd think he'd be getting annoyed by now. :p
That statement saying how there's no plans for a third, could have been taken out of any of the last several interviews with him.

It's interesting how they mention Ivan's son, is that the same boy who calls the Ghostbusters “full of crap” at the start of GB2? (Not sure how many sons Ivan has, but that was his son making a cameo.)

Indeed Jason Reitman was the boy in Ghostbusters II who told Dan, well “Ray” that his dad (oh the irony) said the GBs were full of crap and that's why they went out of business.

As I brought up on GBHQ only new thing here that was news to me was Jason commenting on his “indie, satirical” version of GBs that would “disappoint” the fans. I'm not trying to take it out of context, I had wondered if in some way, shape, or form Jason Reitman wrote or made some unoffical (hmm indie?) Ghostbusters film.

Again I'm speculating, throwing stuff out there. Not starting rumors that some new indie GB film exists from Jason Reitman.

Jason directed the Independent new film Thank You for Smoking. Jason has said in a recent interview that although he respects his father's films, he has no intention of doing what his dad did or does. He feels more affinity for less commercial films.

Man, it was clearly meant as a joke.

I rarely discuss Ghostbusters 3. I read E.W, saw something I thought was interesting with a bit of something new, (new to me) then shared it along with my speculation.
