Equipment in GB III

I was thinking about this a while ago. One of the problems that the Ghostbusters have is that ghosts can avade their capture by moving through solids such as walls and ceilings. So how about if Spengler and Stantz devised some kind of gadget which they could fire at a wall which would momentarily dematerialise it, allowing them to pass through it in pursuit of the spook? Sounds like the next logical step in ghostcatching technology if you ask me and I can imagine some good comedy coming out of that.

What the thousands of dollars worth of damage by just blowing through a wall with a proton stream isn't enough?

That's the game “Portal”.

Very similar, yes.

On top of some new toys for the guys I think that maybe some of the current equipment could use some polishing up. We all remember the Zach Morris cell phone and we all thought it was the coolest.

But let's face it, these days we can do more things with less space taken up. We all have cell phones that actually *gasp* can be carried around without being noticed so why can't the GBs have some packs that are a little more lightweight to go easy on their aging bodies. Wireless traps would be good or maybe a kind of proximity trap that is set to go off when a ghost gets chased near it. I wouldn't say use them all the time because honestly, where's the fun in that. But I just think it would be a cool idea.

I guess all I'm saying is that even though the 80s were great and I still love that decade, maybe there could be a few technological updates.

The better the equipment, the easier the job and the easier the job the less funny, in my opinion. I think that Ghostbusting should be tough. It should be a strain. The equipment should not be user friendly or cutting edge. It should be clunky, goofy and dangerous. That's a big part of the what made the comedy, tension and story in Ghostbusters.

I can respect that but don't you think that our guys as they have gotten much older would be clunky, goofy and dangerous? I'm just saying that it would be a little unbelievable if these scientists who developed this equipment in the 80s wouldn't update their stuff not one bit.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the look and style of all of the original stuff but for them to have not done ANYTHING to the equipment in the past 20 years just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I mean even if they were to make up some new equipment that can actually do MORE damage would be great too. If it's clunky, so be it. I just feel the story would feel like its stuck in the past if they didn't come up with some kind of new gadget or update.

Its a cool idea, but the problem lies with why would they not use them all the time if they were so much easier?

Its doubtful the use of them would be more expensive, so there would be no reason not to use them so as to make it easier if the option was there.

I'm all for new gadgets, but not something that makes things that easy.

See now this is where you make up some fault in them…like say maybe the proximity traps or wireless traps have a flaw due to Egon's design that causes them to only operate as intended a percentage of times, to throw a number out say 80%…so they keep the traditional traps as back-ups.

Interesting twist. I like it
