Extreme Ghostbusters discussion

I have started watching this on youtube. When it came out in 1997, I didn't watch it much for two reasons. I was a loyal fan of the original and didn't like the changes they made. But another reason was that at my parents' house we didn't get channel 49. My Grandparents got it but it came in a little fuzzy. So the episodes I watched I didn't like. Keep in mind I was only 11 when I watched it. But I decided to give it a chance and watch it on youtube.com and I have found that I like it. I really liked the episode with the Gollum. What are your thoughts on this sequel to real ghostbusters? I was also surprised when I went on imdb.com and found out there was 40 episodes of it.

An underrated show in my opinion, not as good as RGB no, but fine on it's own and a nice addition to the GB universe if you ask me. I enjoyed the darker tone and the variety of creatures on it, and I enjoyed the new crew even though the classic ensemble of Egon, Ray, Peter and Winston will always be best to me.

i completely agree its a good show but i don't think it compares to real Ghostbusters very well given a choice if they were on t.v. at the same time i would pick rgb.you got to look at its self, by its self to see the value. After all its a tough act to follow.

EGB was a somewhat underrated show in my opinion. The animation was a bit stiff but the monster designs were very inventive and creepy. And the character development and writing was fairly good. They also deserve kudos for giving Janine a more sarcastic and interesting personality again instead of bringing her back as the dimwitted cheerleader-esque character she became after Laura Summer was replaced in RGB.

It's funny you should say it's underrated because it gets a 7.7/10 on imdb.com. I guess that doesn't make it not underrated though since there's only a few thousand votes.

You didn't read my whole post. I said that I liked it after watching it on youtube. Did anyone notice that instead of using his old Egon voice Maurice used his Brain voice for Egon on this show?

I never checked it's imdb status but I based that on the fact that the majority of the Ghostbusters community didn't seem to crazy about the show.

IMDb's ratings are subject to being ignored because a lot of its memberbase have questionable taste.

To me, the show is flawed in several ways. First off, I still believe that redesigning the equipment was a mistake. The original ghostbusting equipment is a trademark of Ghostbusters, and to replace that with dull, boxy looking backpacks was not the best idea. Not to mention the the fact that creating a Proton pack that needs an ammunition source is a technological step backwards.

The whole idea of a team of accredited scientists being replaced, quite easily by a group of annoying college kids defaces the whole idea of what Ghostbusters was to me. They were scientists who had studied the supernatural to the extent of it being normal to them. The incredible was seen as mundane by them, and to think this random group of kids could have that same attitude of the incredible being anything but just doesn't fly with me.

Second, the whole overly PC thing was a bit much. The show kinda screamed “We have more then just a Black guy, we have a girl, a cripple and a Latino!” Nothing wrong with it, but the show kind of highlighted it too much.

P.S. RGB ended in 1991, this show picked up six years later right? How come the RGB's seemed to age several decades in those six years? :p
