Hi

The new videogame the ghostbusters are testing new equipment. The ending to the game they are looking at expanding maybe going franchises. With both of theses is it possible that Extreme Ghostbusters may now fit the timeline? Here is my semi thoughts of how.

- Franchises fail after a couple of years. After all the times the actual group have been almost shut down it is possible. This would cause the normal group to go bankrupt and close down too.

- After that they could have taken the equipment they had made and improved and used it for Extreme team. Even the trap appears and while yes it is an easter egg is it not possible Egon was building it?

- Slimer in the game they want to train him teach him to be a good ghost like pet (similar to how he was in real ghostbusters) So maybe they have and that's why he's there.

-Egon's hair : Logical that at his age he was going grey and so decided to dye it blonde. Like a mid life crisis thing.

- Janine/Egon romance thing. No Louis round so she would move on and she has always seemed to like him (in first film not just cartoons)

It seems now Extreme ghostbusters can fit and fit well. So if that is the case could it now be cannon as it seems the cannon game has made it so?

Most consider the cartoons (both RGB and EGB) not really canon. You explain a lot, and pretty well I might add. But, for an example, how do you explain the way the rest of the guys look in the “Back in the Saddle” episodes?

What is wrong with their appearance? they look older.

But yeah your right it most likely will always be non-canon. But after it part of me wanted Extreme Ghostbusters tweaked to be the 3rd film as it could be used for a new series of movies.

I was referring to Ray having red hair, and Venkman's hair not having as severe of a receding hair line as Bill Murray has.

Ah ray like Egon could be dye to hide grey.

Peter could be if he had a receding hair line then one of two things a) He started going bald and seeing as how Movie peter was as described in movies “more like a gameshow host” would cover it up with something like a wig or Hair restoration. Or b) he was drawn to match shows style which had les details on hair like that.

I never got hung up on canon like a lot of people.

To me, simply using your imagination fills in most of the holes.

I was never the type who was bothered by not seeing every letter on the journey from A to Z.

Extreme Ghostbusters was way too politically correct:

1. Goth girl.
2. Handicapped guy.
3. Latino guy.
4. Black guy.

I didn't really like Eduardo, I'm not a girl, nor black, so if I wanted to play as an XGB, I would be stuck with a wheelchair.

And they didn't even give him an action figure!

I don't think I would consider the cartoons canon either… They are canon for the cartoonization of GB but not for the theatrical movies which have their own canon… Remember, a lot of crazy crap happened in RGB that obviously never happened in the movies… Therefore, I think it's bad to include the cartoons into canon…

To compare to other series, Star Trek The Animated Series is considered by most of the Trek universe to be canon. There are many differences, for example: they were both tv shows, had the same voice actors as real actors, all of the characters clearly resembled their on screen counterparts. Also, Star Trek TAS was more for adults anyways. RGB was a kids show for kids…

XGB was something I liked back when it was new to me. I found it in syndication about a year after its run had finished.

I think most of it was due to me getting to revisit the RGB world, and seeing that canon continued. Certainly the XGB moments at the top of my list dealt with RGB in some way, like Grundelesque and of course Back in the Saddle. But, I did like some of the original stuff too. I think Till Death Do Us Start, Heart of Darkness, Slimer's Sacrifice, Ghost Apocalyptic Future, The Unseen, and both parts of Darkness at Noon were really good. I also liked the tone of the series.

They seemed to recylce a few plots from RGB for some episodes, which was one of the RGB elements that I didn't enjoy. I also thought the new team needed a little work. Kylie was the standout for me, and I liked Garrett. Roland was a little too bland for my taste and they were just trying too hard to channel Venkman through Eduardo.

When I look at it now, I don't really feel a strong attachment to the show, but it was okay. I do often wonder though if the movie does happen and maybe spawns a new animated series set in the RGB canon and not movie canon, if XGB would even be acknowledged. I never like it when they alter continuity and bump something out, so I would like them to at least acknowledge that the movie's crew wasn't the first new team. I have doubts that they'd want to though, since both are passing the torch scenarios and XGB had such a short run. But, that's a lot of wishful thinking and I'm getting far ahead of myself. (*ray)

I only had a few problems with the series, but they're kind of biggies.

1.) There was one dedicated trap person. In the original, every member of the team carried a trap. And, if Kylie could get what was essentially a “mini-proton pack” so that she could wear the trap on her back (which is kind of a dumb design situation and awkward placement for a trap IMO), why not make those same changes for the rest of the team so they could all have a trap? How many times did they split up and they encountered a ghost when Kylie wasn't around?

2.) The redesign of the equipment. I understand that they needed to redesign the equipment to be more powerful. Fine. But, why did they need to redesign it to look more like weapons? I mean, I've never thought of the equipment as weapons. In fact, in a lot of the early interviews for Ghostbusters: The Video Game, they make it a point that it's equipment and not weapons. I mean, except for a few and RARE times when the equipment names where “dumbed down” to include “proton gun”, it's always been the proton pack and particle thrower or neutrona wand. So, why do the particle throwers/neutrona wands now look like guns?

3.) Speaking of dumbing down, it feels like, they dumbed down other aspects as well. Anyone else remember the pilot/first episode? Eduardo asks why they shouldn't cross the streams. Now, us fans will remember that the result is “all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. Total protonic reversal.” The explanation given here however, is nuclear explosion.
