Fan Project Forum Rules

Okay, here are the rules as they stand (May be subject to slight changes, more will be added when we progress I guess)

Standard Rules

1. No Spamming, ie. “My project is ace, this project is rubbish, you're all sad, who cares.” or printing the F-word in the Fan Project Forum threads, and ect. Apart from anything else this is a sign of disrespect towards what people are either promoting, or showing their work for the first time. Any posts consisting soley of smileys are also grounds for deletion. We do not tolerate SPAM, or unsolicited messages. Anything sounding like a get rich quick scheme will be deleted on site.

2. Show respect for the users or posters, in a majority of the cases they have poured their heart and soul into a piece of work. Saying "This member is a moron or retarded because he/she can't write properly" or such is disrespectful towards that person, constructive criticism is okay, but not in force.

3. Some people will be entering the world of fanfiction/fanart/projects for the first time, please encourage them, and advise them if they want opinions. Comments like: “This idea sucks because… or This is crap, why don't you…” waste time and are not worth reading. If you have a problem with a person's project, either contact them via email, or if you need to post, be conservative, insulting them doesn't help sort a problem out.

4. Respect for the MODs….Goes the same as the users, the members should respect the mods decisions on locking or deleting a thread.

Both Moderators, and board members are encouraged to promote any new artist in the forum. The artist's first topic in the Fan Projects Forum, if containing new artwork, can become a sticky for a length of up to thirty days. After such a point, the topic can then be unstickied. An artist is also encouraged to use the same topic, if possible for posting art. They may retitle as they wish, as long as it isn't insulting or derogatory.

5. Requests to be a Moderator will be considered SPAM, and will be deleted.

Fan Fiction Rules

This covers the fics which will be uploaded at Ghostbusters.net

1. Stories MUST be original, any written material used without the explicit consent of the authour will be deemed a theft, and will be taken down.

2.A fanfic, in short, is a story, not a description, opinion or reply. Anything other then a fanfic/script will be deleted, and will be noted as misuse of the approval system. ie 'Why did the guys fight alongside Stay Puft?'

3. Show respect for the writers and their work. Even if you may not like their work, others might. And if you must criticise, be constructive. You're wasting time and not helping them learn by posting ‘Your fic sucks’.

4. Some people will be entering the world of fanfiction for the first time, please encourage them, and advise them if they want opinions. Comments like: “This idea sucks because… or This is crap, why don't you…” waste time and are not worth reading. If you have a problem with a person's project, either contact them via email, or if you need to post, be conservative, insulting them doesn't help sort a problem out.

5. If a GBC or member of the GB community is featuring in your fic, you need their permission to use their Screen Name, if you don't include that in your disclaimer then it could be grounds for a removal of work.

6. Slanting of a GBC or GB Community member is strictly forbidden and will result in a warning, if you have a grudge with that person then try to resolve it via email.

7. Language is allowed, the language in the movies is acceptable, and harsher words can be used, as long as used in moderation and if a warning is posted.

8. Slashers, and same sex relationships, in my personal opinion, are not what we want here. I suggest that any people wanting to print this material, print it somewhere else, even if the community is a adult majority, there is a minority of minors (Under 18s for those who don't know)

9. Egon and Janine
As much as I like it to be the standard relationship, after several fights broke out, I'm willing to allow Egon and Janine not to date, as long as the author doesn't go overboard with the anti-Janine stuff.

10. Crossovers are also allowed, and can be a point of intrest, as long as they have some workings in what they're crossing over with.

ie: Ghostbusters/Resident Evil, Ghostbusters/Sentinal, Ghostbusters/The Call

11. An addition to Rule 2 Fanfics shall not be a paragraph, they need to be longer, or otherwise qualify as a summary and will be deleted. Don't try to skimp, fanfic writing is an art. (Update 290903)

12. Fictions MUST be about Ghostbusters, I can't stress this enough, anything submitted that doesn't relate to the Ghostbusters in even basic levels will be deleted.

13. Mary Sue stories, song parodies and things of this nature must carry a warning in the disclaimer so to alert approvers and later readers. A Mary Sue story without a warning will not be approved until a version with a warning is submitted.

Please see: The Mary Sue Litmus Test , The Real Ghostbusters Mary Sue Litmus Test Or Mary Sues and other Canon Issues

Fan Art Rules

1. Artwork MUST be original, any material used without the explicit consent of the artist will be deemed a theft, and will be taken down.

1b. If a member has taken your artwork without permission, first PM them, if they do not reply, or refuse to take down the work then contact a Moderator.

2. Show respect for the artists and their work. Even if you may not like their work, others might. And if you must criticise, be constructive. You're wasting time and not helping them learn by posting ‘Your art sucks’.

3. Some people will be entering the world of fan art for the first time, please encourage them, and advise them if they want opinions. Comments like: “This idea sucks because… or This is crap, why don't you…” waste time and are not worth reading. If you have a problem with a person's project, either contact them via email, or if you need to post, be conservative, insulting them doesn't help sort a problem out.

4. If a GBC or member of the GB community is featuring in your artwork (and isn't done by a artist in the same franbchise as the member, or in a crossover with two teams), you need their permission to use their name and appearance, if you don't include that in the topic and/or disclaimer then it could be grounds for a removal of work.

5. Slanting of a GBC or GB Community member is strictly forbidden and will result in a warning, if you have a grudge with that person then try to resolve it via email.

6. Language is allowed, the language in the movies is acceptable, and harsher words can be used, as long as used in moderation and if a warning is posted. This probably will apply to comics at such.

7. Slashers, and same sex relationships is totally unacceptable, ANY graphic material of this kind will be taken down, and the member will be submitted for banning.

8. New pieces of art, and new artists showing thier work will have their topics stickied for a period of 30 days by a Moderator, when this period ends the topic will be unstickied and allowed to move down the forum. Se above entry in Standard Rules.

Guidelines

For uploading artwork, I'd generally suggest DeviantArt, but that doesn't mean you should. But if you are linking to DeviantArt, to be on the safe side, don't direct link, just post the url for people to click on, it should prevent bandwidth theft issues.

Remember, being able to post art and fiction is a priviledge, not a right, don't make us remove this right from you.

Enjoy posting-The Fan Project Consultants.

PS. if you have a rule suggestion, either an alteration, addition and so on, please either post them here, we will review them, and if we accept them we'll then remove the post, or contact the MOD group through PM.

On a side note, Johnnny and Princess Artemis's posts have not been deleted, while they now exist in a seperate thread, a failed attempt to move them to another topic, I still have posted quotes of them in the Mary Sues and other Canon Issues topic as they were relevant to that, but I encourage people to either post their concerns here (And they'll be dealt with as quickly as possible) or in the above mentioned topic.

KP,

What's the scoop on where fanfiction will be stored? Does it still go to GBN, or are we planning a new repository for fanfic works?

If we have a new place in mind, I'd like to speak with you about how we build and run it. I have some issues to go over.

Yeah, Vince. GBN is open for Fan Fics again–back in August, Chad reopened GBN in an archived state then in September reopened the Fan Fic submission/approvals. Your old GBN user name and password work the same as they used to except the message boards won't allow you to post.

As far as I know, the approval url and login process are the same as when you were there. I'll be sending you a slight bit more information in a PM

Vincent:

When Chad reopened the Fanfic submission, we talked about changing the password…it was either that…or it'd been forgotten. (*peter)

Anyway, unless Fritz has sent it to you, I can send you a copy, though, I also sent it via PM to you a few months back.

I'll raise the subject of fanfic websites in an email, there's a project I think you'd be interested in seeing…

Fanfiction's had some rather big breakthroughs since you were last here.

Illustrating Fan Fics

*has calmed down since reading this 1 hour ago. Was in hysterically crying side-pain laughter previously*

Hey it's me! I just joined a few hours ago. Hehe.
I've read them rules and promise to abide. You won't see any trouble from me. Though you will have to tell me sometime the story of rule 9…

*chuckles* ..Their own rule… that's so funny…

But hello, and hope to get something started. ^_^

Yeah, there's quite a story behind Rule 9…but it was a rather nasty business. You can get a glimpse of some of the issues involved here, though:
http://forums.ghostbusters.net/viewtopic.php?t=2658

I should note that GBN is not currently accepting fan fic submissions–the Archive section (or the “old GBN”) doesn't allow user log-ins, so obviously fan fic submissions are out.

You can either get fan fics hosted by another site (ie The Nexus) or Fanfiction.net) and post links here (that's what I do); or post the stories directly in threads (a common practice at The Ghostbusters Omnibus Fan Fic Center)
