Firehouse 23

Has anyone ever actually been inside?

I've been reading on the LA locations used in the movie (heading down that way myself this week for my birthday…thought I'd hit up different movie locations), and my findings indicate the firehouse interior is in a pretty shady neighborhood.

While we're on the subject, any tips for hitting up the Biltmore or the library stacks?

It is my understanding that the inside is closed off to the general public and in state of disrepair

For a lot of the year Firestation 23 serves as a private residence and isn't normally open to the public.

However, the station is used for a number of community events, ranging from open mike nights, auctions and for Skid Row's Community Unity Festival.

The area is downtrodden compared to Hollywood or Beverly Hills… I don't know what the current crime statistics for the area are but there are a lot of homeless in the general area, so watch your camera and your wallet.

Contrary to belief, the station interior isn't wrecked, but it in a state where repair is neccesary to counteract 40 years worth of little maintenance, and where some items have been stolen in years gone by. The caretaker, Daniel Taylor has also stored some items in the station so some areas may be messy, but not dangerously so.

I'm presently not aware of any events being held at Station 23 in the immediate future… but, depending on who you're able to ask, maybe you'll be able to get a tour…

Firehouse23, who posted a topic about a petition to convert the station in the Fan Projects section is a friend of Daniel Taylor… he's going to be taking some photographs of the interior for me… maybe he could see if he could ask Daniel about arranging the ability to go inside for you…

I wouldn't hold my breath, it being so late into the game… but worth a try, I suppose.

The Biltmore's definitely worth visiting I imagine, although be warned, the Ballroom has since been converted into part of the Lobby… however, you should recognise it as the glass ceiling is still there.

Take a tour of the millenium biltmore hotel online and see if you want to go. You can see some familair stuff in the lobby tour. I didnt know they got rid of the GB ball room. Can someone point it out on the virtual tour?

This is it:

As I said though, the illuminated glass ceiling will give it away as soon as you see it.

The door archways in the new lobby are the same ones where the manager waits for them to catch slimer… I don't remember where, but I saw some really good comparison shots… Maybe the GBTV comparo?

Well, I wish I could be returning to this thread with pictures and stories, but I cannot. On the way to the Biltmore, I discovered someone had stolen my laptop from my car. (Not in F23's neighborhood…I never even made it that far.) So I'm once again stuck using the Wii in the living room for internet. When I get a new computer, I'll probably make a reappearance asking to help find some of the various rare GB pics I'd collected.

Thanks for the info on the locations; Sorry I couldn't put them to use.

I'm sorry for your loss, Pirate Queen. I hope nothing irreplaceable was on your laptop.

Sadly it serves as a lesson that it's best not to leave a laptop in a car.
