game to hit stores in '09

This is some very upsetting news, or rather, lack of official news. The rerelease of the original DVDs for the 25th anniversary is one thing, I dont even have a blueray player and I will probably still buy it, but delaying a game for that period of time is nonsense. Considering marketing is not cheap, there is many ways that both situations (release on date, or anniversary) can work.

1. On Date: Release goes well, public purchases, target audience quickly adopts game, mass audience sees reviews, goes well, they pick it up. After completing the game, and enjoying it so much, people begin to think about the movies, and they really want to see them again, then rerelease in HD. This allows the game to be used as a for of marketing, it could even have a picture for the release on the back of the manual.

2. Anniversary: The date seems obviously more significant, core audience (Us.) appreciate the sentiment and new dvds are also released, with hardly any fanfare or demand. Marketing would have to be more aggressive, and chances are sales will be lower.

I cant think of any other big game coming out in October, it would be perfect time to release it, considering that I assume by anniversary they mean June 7th (or 8th depending on your belief of original release). Thats a prime time for game line ups, big summer blockbuster hits, it seems almost too foolish from a laymen's point a view, let alone from a corporate marketer.

A good person to ask is good old Danny Akroyd. I know that Ghostbuster's is his baby, and if this is as close as it gets to number 3, then I am sure he has something personal to say about it. God knows that if he had the money he would produce it.

Sony, if you are reading this, a great idea for the 25th anniversary would be for you to release a new Ghostbusters feature film in theaters. Now that a plan!

but like i said before. there may be a chance that delaying the game (due to lack of publisher and depending on how long it will take to get a new publisher) could make sony just decide to just wait till the anniversary. if they dont find a publisher and clear up all the fine print soon enough to meet the release date or (hopefully not the case) the holiday season they may just decide to wait till june

I'm just disappointed in Activision to tell you the truth, dropping this for Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and Ice Age, ugh, thank you Activision, and by thank you, I mean I'm giving you the one finger salute right now.

well all of this is Activision's fault pretty much. If they would have just published the game and given us the Ghostbusters experience that they OWE US!! and putting the game in limbo then sony wouldn't even be considering a serious delay

That's so true, after all they did make the abomination of a game that is Ghostbusters for the NES.

Yeah, thanks Activision, you decide to publish that Ghostbusters game, and yet, decide not to publish this one? Amazing.

Mike Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing: “We are very excited to add such recognizable and successful brands as Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age and Spyro, which reinforce our leadership position in movie-based and family entertainment video games.”

Excited? Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age & Spyro? You're kidding, right? Recognizable and successful?? And what's Ghostbusters…a flash in the pan one hit wonder? He's trying to say it's not “movie-based and family entertainment”? Gimme a break.

Ridiculous.

Apparently, you can contact Mike Griffith's directly through a third party at this link:

I just sent an e-mail, but you have to register with the site…I'm not sure if it's worth it, but you could always send an e-mail at the Activision site.

Thanks for that bit of info, I will make sure to send him a pleasant email. And by pleasant I mean coming only short of ripping his head off. Lets hope them pursing other options for the game means that a sister company does.

I know Sony more or less owns everything Ghostbuster related, however I dont think the final call is theres.

Who knows. I am just hoping they are completely retarded and make us wait, nearly 25 freaking years seems long enough for a decent sequel. And by sequel i mean the game being the closest we will get.

According to G4TV.com gbtvg is still on course for an october release date. At least they're acknowledging all of these “possible deleays” as just that. Possible.
