I've deliberately held onto all my Ghostbuster releases in various formats in fear of losing what I'm used to seeing when I was growing up. The most accurate transfer I have seen of them all (1999 and 2005 DVD and even what I have seen/read about the Blu-ray) is the laserdisc. The laserdisc version I have doesn't suffer any colour problems like the other releases and although not the same resolution as the DVDs or the Blu-ray it has the closest look to the original theatrical release I believe. I would say the 1999 DVD has one of the worst colours though (dominant blue and red/brown) but fairs better with contrast and brightness over the 2005 DVD which looks too green and washed out.
I am debating whether to see the remastered version released on cinema this month based on the facts I know about the blu-ray. After being stuck with using my laserdisc for so long, I am a bit desperate to see the extra details to allow a refreshing change in viewing experience.
Has anyone made the comparison with the above formats I have and concluded the Blu-ray is superior? Just curious to know.
