Sinister, this isn't a jab at you, so don't take it as such, but you are endlessly optimistic about this hardcover.
Are you buddies with Sebastien, or do you just know something we don't?
I've heard some things from some pretty reliable sources about this situation, and from every indication, this whole affair has gone sour. More than just the fans allocated financial support towards this book, and it sounds like the money wasn't managed with the publication of this book as 88MPH's first priority. I'm pretty sure that's why we started getting wind of that lithograph fund raiser tactic before Sebastien decided to retreat into hiding. A move which has pretty much pushed me away from considering investing in any of his future projects.
I'm sorry, but not delivering a promise for over a year and a half is going to get some negative feedback. I'm still holding out for the book (at this point I would settle for a softcover), but this whole situation is pretty lame.
Again, we should consider ourselves lucky that we got to at least read the entire story to its conclusion. At this point, I'm thinking that's all we're going to get.
Maybe some other publisher should do the Ghostbusters comic. Same artist, inker and writer, different company. If it hadn't been for Slave Labor Graphics, TRON would have never seen the light of day.
The guy obviously isn't good at managing money. And the fans have to “pay” for that in a completely unfair way. Dead horse? Indeed. But is it an unjustified assessment?
I doubt Ghostbusters books will stop being published by someone in the future. But it definitely needs stronger leadership. With the right amount of funding and resources, any of us could publish a comic.
